"We hired Tropical Breeze to complete a driveway replacement in July of 2023. Shortly after the driveway was completed and the final bill was paid, we noticed large unsightly dark spots all over the entire driveway. Some of the bigger spots measure over five feet long and three feet wide. We contacted JJ, the owner via text to explain the problem and attached plenty of photos. We also asked if he would return to the job site to look at the dark spots in person. He was very dismissive from the get-go and said there wasn?t much that could be done and to wait until the summer to see if the spots lightened up or go away. We waited the recommended time and the large unsightly dark spots did not go away. We reached out again via text explaining the problem did not improve and again asked to schedule a phone call to discuss. He was again very dismissive and unwilling to even discuss the problem let alone do anything about it. Do not use this contractor. "

You should put chlorine in your hot tub on a regular basis. To keep bacteria away, keep the chlorine level in your hot tub at between 3-5 mg/l, which may mean you need to add chlorine daily or at least every two to three days. Don’t add chlorine to your hot tub water more than once per day.

Where you drain a hot tub largely depends on local regulations, but you must not drain chemically treated water where it can damage the environment. Direct the water toward a sanitary sewer drain that will take it to a treatment facility. If your lawn has a dedicated drainage area that’s free from plants and foundations, you can likely drain it there. Avoid storm drains, as the hot tub water will enter waterways and could hurt aquatic life. For a fully-foamed hot tub, freezing typically occurs when the temperature drops below 28 degrees Fahrenheit and remains at or below this level continuously for a minimum of 36 hours. If your hot tub and pumps are still operational, however, the water circulates, and this continuous movement helps prevent freezing, even in very cold conditions. This circulation, along with the insulation provided by the foam, helps maintain the water temperature and prevent it from freezing during extended cold periods. Still, if you’re not planning to run it regularly, be sure to winterize the hot tub properly to prevent damage from freezing.

Properly maintaining your hot tub will prevent serious issues from occurring down the road. You should replace the filter once a year, regularly look for and repair small cracks in the shell, and test the water quality every few months. You can do this yourself for less than $100 per year.

You can also hire a hot tub service to service your hot tub annually to identify problems early, which could save you money in the long run. They cost about $100 to $200 per call.

Most hot tubs will experience leaks due to wear and tear in the plumbing or the shell itself. The second most common issue is a heater malfunction due to the ongoing heat stress on moving parts. Finally, clogs happen in hot tub jets, especially when it’s time to change the filter.
