"I hired this company to design my backyard landscape and they did a fantastic job. The designer was creative and came up with a beautiful plan that incorporated all of my ideas. The installation process was seamless and the team was professional and efficient. I now have a backyard that I can be proud of and enjoy all year round. I highly recommend this company for anyone looking to enhance their outdoor space."

"Wonderful company and easy going people to work with. We hired them to completely demolish the existing kitchen and to take down some walls in order to get a large open space of the kitchen and to redesign it completely. The work that they did was on a daily basis and each day our supervisor came over either at the end of the day or early in the morning and to personally check the progress of the work. The whole remodeling took more than 2 months and they took care of all the paperwork and permits. we must mention that we had no hidden charge of any type and although they made some changes during that work. We strongly recommend them and we already refereed them to some of our friends."

"Calling these guys are like talking to your long time friends.
I live in the San Fernando valley and we're in a drought so I wanted to transform my backyard and do some hard scaping to save water. I also wanted to knock down a wall between my dining room and a small room to help expand the dining/kitchen area.
I had Sharon as my project manager and the years of experience this guy has really shows.
All of my questions were answered in depth and with expertise.
You're in good hands with this team.

"I initially talked to Build A Dream’s Nick & Sean about painting the exterior of my place, one thing led to another, and they also painted the interior. Turns out my almost 80 year old home on a hill also had foundation issues, which they took care of, and my crumbling retaining wall which held my back yard from joining my main structure, is now a strait structure that I have no worries from. The outside looks beautiful, so much so, that old friends have stopped by to say How beautiful it looks. And one person referred to the interior as, “it makes me feel happy.” I never liked seeing vintage homes with new “plastic looking” windows. But now my old, single paned French windows are now modern double paned pull up quiet—and what a Difference it made! My tenant said a bus which goes by a 615am no longer wakes him up. And I can really enjoy the views. And I love the look. As you can tell, I am very satisfied with the work that Build A Dream has done for me, and the creative relationship that I have with Nick and Sean, that has changed my almost 80 year old home to one that I am very happy with! I highly recommend them!"

"I decided to plant big trees on the the front yard for much-needed shade. I wanted a stone retaining wall, actually several. I also requested a few more on the back, making sure I had enough space for these trees. Indeed they did a great job. I am pleased with the punctuality of the team, they worked pretty fast. The walls were made sturdy and most important ... aligned!"

"We had a 30 foot block wall replaced: demolition, new block, stucco and paint with a sautillo tile border along the top. The work was done in four days. Professional. Well supervised. Constant feedback with the supervisors and workers. It was not the lowest price but the service we got was unprecedented for this kind of work. Money well spent."

"All I can think to say is WOW !!!  On time and On budget (well, his anyway. Mine.............. not so much)  I bought a foreclosure condo that was about 30 years old and contacted Kevin after finding him on Angie's List. (Best subscription money I ever spent was on Angie's List).  Kevin showed up promptly at the agreed upon time and I had his completed estimate in a few days. Kevin and his crew did the following after demo: replaced all interior doors with solid core prehung doors, installed four new windows into a curved Dining Room wall, installed custom made cabinets in the Garage, Desk in the Family Room, Niche in the Kitchen area, vanity in the Guest Bath, double vanity in the Master Bath and Linen Closet in the hallway, installed Granite on all of those cabinets in addition to the complete Fireplace hearth and face. They also installed a bunch of recessed light fixtures (and I mean, a bunch), replaced all of the receptacles and trim plates, installed four ceiling fans, built 2 beautiful roll in showers that pictures just don't do justice to, replaced all door hardware and locks, installed new nickel mirrored wardrobe doors in Guest room, installed 3 glass vessel sinks and faucets in the bathrooms, installed two new vent fans in the baths, installed new door casings and baseboards throughout, enclosed my water heater, installed new kitchen faucet, dishwasher, stove, etc. You get the idea. About all I didn't have to replace were the kitchen cabinets and granite that was on top of them.
As this was my first remodel attempt, it didn't become apparent to me until the new cabinets were being installed, that the existing tile flooring really looked like well, a mess.  If any of you have gays in your life, you already know that we are prone to make changes and take different paths regularly (haha, but it's true), so it was at this point I decided to replace all the flooring with a beautiful travertine tile. While this major change added 2 weeks to the schedule (bringing us to a total of 7 weeks) and a huge hit to my budget, Kevin and his crew were excellent about taking my changes and adds all in stride. It just didn't make sense to remodel 90 percent of my unit and not do the floors while we were at it. All I will say about the flooring is this, his installer Cory is an artist. He mudset the entire floor on a foundation that was anything but flat. Cory also did the new backsplash in the kitchen and all the tile in the showers. Truly amazing.
In the final analysis, Kevin and his guys did an amazing job turning a pig of an old condo into a silk purse that is surely one of the nicest units in our development. They showed up every day sometimes to include weekends when necessary. I would recommend them to anyone looking to do a remodel. Kevin will be doing my next project if I get the bug to do this again.

"After discovering California Arborist Companies on Angie?s List, we contracted to have our large avocado tree removed and broken blocks on our back wall replaced with new blocks. Although we are pleased with the removal of the avocado tree and repair of the wall there were a couple of issues:
*Note: The tree removal and wall repair were contracted on separate dates ~ 3 weeks apart.
1. During the work on the wall repair, Oscar, one of the assigned crew members, exercised EXTREMELY poor judgment and determined that is was acceptable to relieve himself in our back yard. Aside from the obvious issues of using our yard as a toilet, Oscar chose to do so in a manner that would have exposed himself to anyone walking through the backyard gate. This was particularly disturbing as our three young daughters were present and playing outside and around the house at the time of the incident. Fortunately, it was my wife who walked into the back yard to witness Oscar quickly turning around to
avoid exposure, and not one of our daughters.
Oscar was removed from our property shortly after calling in the incident to the front office
and Richard, VP of Field Operations, did apologize over the phone for Oscar?s actions explaining that have very strict policies against such behavior and that Oscar would be appropriately reprimanded.
A 5% discount on the wall repair for Oscar?s lack of judgment was given; however, a 5% discount alone does not seem
to demonstrate that California Arborist Companies takes these sorts of incidents as seriously as perhaps they should?for example a formal letter of apology, with an explanation of what steps would be taken to prevent any such occurrences
from happening in the future, would have demonstrated an understanding of the gravity of the situation ?a 5% discount just makes us think that this sort of thing has happened before and the discount is standard practice.
2. During the removal of the avocado tree, one of our Rain Bird in-ground sprinklers was damaged. The crew was aware that they had damaged the sprinkler, however after a brief inspection by Fernando, who determined the sprinkler was still functional, instructed the crew to just put the cap back on. It was not until we contacted California Arborist Companies for a repair or replacement of the broken sprinkler that Fernando was sent back to fix it. We expected our damaged sprinkler to be replaced with another Rain Bird sprinkler and not an inferior product purchased at the local Home Depot such as was placed in our yard.
California Arborist Companies website states that they provide ?Service with Integrity?? unfortunately, this was not our experience and we can not recommend their service.

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.

To maintain the integrity of your landscape, a retaining wall must be installed if the slope of the angle exceeds 35 degrees. The lean of the wall must be 1 inch per 12 inches in height to disperse the weight of the soil uniformly and guarantee the correct drainage of the soil.
