"I called Mr. Standish at the last minute, and he was able to fit me in. He explained everything in advance, and I was able to check out his website and a sample report, which really helped. He arrived promptly, and did a very thorough job in every part of the house, including the roof and the crawlspace. His report arrived via email first, which was fantastic! I also received a beautiful bound report in color, with all the problems spelled out, which helped when I was having the repair work done. In addition to all this, I feel I received a very fair price, especially for the services performed. Mr Standish was also very responsive to my phone calls, when I had a few questions for clarification after I received the report. All in all, it was hassle-free and I would and do recommend Standish Inspections to my friends and family."

"I hired Jeff to replace our old leaking patio roof that had plastic type of sheeting as the material. Instead of going with the same material he suggested that we use metal sheeting because of the durability and longevity. It also looked a lot nicer. He noticed some of the wood frame was rotting away and suggested we replaced that as well since everything will be torn apart. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. He completed the work in a very timely manner as well as showed up on time. He was also able to complete the job under budget even with using better quality materials. It has been a few years and the roof still looks amazing as well does not leak, even with the extensive rain we have had this past winter. I would definitely recommend him!"

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

Yes, transforming a deck into a sunroom is an absolute possibility. Building a sunroom involves framing in the deck area with walls, adding windows, and affixing a roof. This project is not an easy task, but it does provide a stylish addition to your house. Not all deck designs support this type of renovation project, so consult a professional deck builder before beginning.

What goes under your floating deck depends on your preferences. Some homeowners put landscaping fabric underneath their decks to prevent weeds from popping up through the boards. Others choose to build a floating deck over grass or gravel. However, it’s best not to set your deck directly on the ground. Instead, set your deck on blocks to keep it elevated enough to prevent moisture from rotting the wood.

Expect to spend around $10,000 to $11,000 to replace a 20-by-20-foot deck. Using high-end materials like composite or exotic hardwoods can drive up the cost, as can custom features and design elements. You can also expect to pay more than average if your deck replacement requires a site evaluation or if you need the work done during the busy season.

Deck repairs cost around $800 to $3,500 . However, your cost depends on the type and severity of the repair, as well as the type of decking material you have. Other factors, like location and labor costs, impact the price, too. Boards and railings are the priciest parts of a deck to repair, while loose stairs are less expensive to fix.
