Small jobs welcome

"I was referred by a family member to Alcantar construction by the amazing concrete work they did at their home. I was interested in removing an old glass patio door and to have a new window installed in my son’s room. Rodrigo and his team said it would not be a problem and were able to take on the project. I had a new window installed in less than a few days. The price was very reasonable, the crew was great and respectful, the communication between Rodrigo and his team was excellent. I am very happy with the new window and am excited for more projects coming up soon. Thank you Alcantar Construction!"

"We have used this service many times and every time has been absolutely great. If you need work done and want it done right these are the guys for you. Recently we had an emergency plumbing issue the night before Thanksgiving (crisis mode) our sink was broken and started to leak under the sink in the cabinets. Joseph came out and fixed the issue promptly and our turkey day was saved! Cannot thank them enough. We will definitely use them in the future."

"Atkins has several trucks and workers and I was never worried. They kept me informed and did all the work wondefully! They never once left a mess. Everything looks amazing and I couldn't be happier. Dealing with contractors isn't scary anymore!"

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

Renting the right type of storage unit is sometimes a more practical alternative to renting a storage container if you don't need regular access to your items. It saves you from having an unsightly container sitting on or near your property, you won't have to worry about permits, climate-control facilities are safer for some items, and you'll have peace of mind from on-site security.

Yes, particularly handy DIYers can build their own storm shelter, especially when using a prefabricated kit and an existing space. However, it is a large project that can take several weeks, requiring significant manual labor and heavy equipment. For these reasons, hiring a professional is often recommended. You should always leave certain jobs to a pro, such as installing an underground shelter, projects requiring site excavation, or any custom-designed structures. These types of builds are complex, labor-intensive, and can cost more in the long run if not executed properly.

Technically, there isn't a difference between safe rooms and storm shelters. Both are designed to protect you from storms and extreme weather events. People often use “safe room” when discussing a shelter inside a building and storm shelter when talking about a detached unit.

Additionally, a safe room is understood to have more functions than a storm shelter. You may seek shelter in a safe room when you believe an intruder is in the home or when under another type of threat.

Ranch and colonial-style homes are often the most affordable to build. They have a common layout with available designs that are easy to adjust in simple ways without having to spend too much on a structural engineer or architect. Both types of homes' symmetry, simple roofs, and often one or two-story plans mean they often fall in the $150 to $200 square-foot range, putting them right around average.

While a log cabin is often less expensive to build than a typical home, cabins actually have a similar cost per square foot. The main difference affecting price is that log cabins tend to be much smaller than traditional homes. For instance, many cabins are about 500 square feet, versus a traditional house which averages between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet.
