"Serafin was hired to install new sprinkler heads and sod in my front yard. The sod area was approximately 100 sq ft, and the area needed about 12 new sprinkler heads. He was also planting 24 1gallon boxwood that I purchased in advance. The job took less than a day and a half, he didn’t replace the sprinklers, and the plants weren’t put in properly. The lawn is dying, I’ve replanted the boxwood and hired a professional and knowledgeable licensed person to install sprinklers that Serafin was paid to do. If you hire him, watch over the project and make sure you get what you agreed on."

Small jobs welcome

"A&R landscaping & junk removal did a phenomenal job on a big overgrown cleanup we needed done , the job was completed within days of getting a quote. It was years of overgrown trees and shrubs that needed to be cut down as well as gutters that were completely filled with dirt and weeds! The property didn’t look to appealing but that definitely changed when A&R got to work!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

You should use mulch because it protects garden soil in a few key ways. This extra layer between the ground and the elements protects against erosion, helps your soil maintain moisture, regulates changes in temperature, adds nutrients as it decomposes, and keeps weeds at bay.

Plant privet hedges at least 1 foot apart in a trench about 2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. It’s important to space privet hedges relatively far apart due to how quickly they grow to significant sizes and heights. You don’t want to crowd privet plants, or they could overcrowd each other, causing unwanted damage.

Buying plants from a nursery is one thing, but ensuring that they are properly planted is another. While you might not need to hire a landscaper for every plant that you buy from a nursery, it’s a great idea to have their expertise and experience to plant larger items, like burlapped trees or specialty plants like rose bushes. Even better, before making a trip to a nursery to buy new plants, consult a local landscaper to test your soil for pH levels, soil texture, and phosphorus and potassium levels to help determine the best plants for your area.

As much as you might try to keep a healthy, nutrient-rich lawn, you still may notice signs of St. Augustine decline (SAD)—a viral disease that discolors your grass blades. St. Augustine decline looks like:

  • Discoloration in the leaves (chlorosis)—leaves appear yellow and splotchy

  • Decline in growth

  • Leaves turn black within 3 years

  • Grass appears less vibrant

  • Grass begins to thin

  • Root rot

  • Grass takes longer to recover

A green home is one that focuses on conservation, with the goal often being net-zero carbon emissions and self-sustainability. It will often include some kind of self-generation equipment, like solar panels or a small wind turbine, high-efficiency electrical components and mechanicals, and high-quality insulation and air sealing to reduce the loss of conditioned air. Many green homes also include xeriscaping or rainwater collection to cut down on drainage and water consumption.
