"Very responsive to any concerns I raised. Unfortunately outside mount shades were not shown in standard samples available for view on the salesperson's web access which led to some dissatisfaction with a corner treatment. Traditional cordless shades were inconsistently performing when initially installed (speed of rewind) but they readily came out to adjust. Would have been nice if the rewind speed had been checked at time of installation to eliminate additional visit. Power shade works nicely. Very courteous and professional staff."

"CR Painting (Cesar Ramirez) was recommended to me for painting the outside of my 1980's home. Cesar was very professional and thorough in his presentation of the bid and in the completion of the work. He and his crew were punctual, professional and courteous during the entire process. CR Painting completed the work on time and even went the extra mile and cleaned my windows. I couldn't be happier! Thank you CR Painting!"

"We had a great experience with hiring Avalon Shutters, Inc. to install window shutters to our new house. Joe did excellent measurements and was knowledgeable regarding the best options for our windows. Lazaro and Josh came in and installed the shutters; they were professional, hard working, and left our place looking fabulous. I would definitely recommend them to others!"

"John came out and was very patient with us when selecting our window coverings. He respected our choices and showed us what we liked to see. He only carries one brand, but to his credit, the quality of the product was very good. He installed everything in half a day since we had a lot of windows and had the best pricing for us."

"This is pretty much as good as it gets without having the designer come to your house.  We received detailed recommendations for lighting, accessories, fabric types, window treatments, lots of good details in the recommendations.  The actual remodel changed the room, but most of the recommendations still apply.  I'm not sure about the prices of the items they recommend, but it does give you practical ideas for furniture you may already have or how to shop in a retail store, etc.

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

It is generally recommended to remove window screens for the winter, especially in climates with heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures. Removing them helps prevent damage to the screen mesh and frames that can be caused by ice and moisture buildup between the screen and the window. Taking out the screens also allows more natural light and warmth into your home during shorter winter days and makes it easier to clean your windows thoroughly. In warmer climates where harsh weather is not a concern, the decision is more about personal preference; some homeowners prefer the clearer view, while others leave them in for convenience.

Most homeowners prefer to service their windows during the spring or fall when temperatures are the most bearable, and having large openings in your wall won’t drastically increase your heating and cooling bills. However, while these seasons are the most convenient, you’ll also tend to pay more for window repair due to the increased demand. If you want to reduce labor costs, consider making window repairs in the off-seasons. Avoid waiting until the heart of winter to do repairs, though, as you could run into leaks and heat loss issues.

Tinting your windows will make your house darker since it will prevent some sunlight from getting inside. While you can choose a window film that is on the lighter side, there will still be reduced sunlight. If natural light is important to you, tinted windows might not be the best choice for your home.

Storm windows are placed outside of already-installed windows. Regular windows are installed into a frame, offering a barrier to the elements but no special protection. Storm windows add extra protection to regular windows, reduce noise, and improve insulation. Replacing a regular window involves a different process than installing a storm window.

Window screens are available in several standard sizes. Common dimensions include 24 to 36 inches wide by 36 to 48 inches tall, as well as sizes like 18 by 14 inches and 20 by 20 inches. These often correspond to standard window sizes, such as 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall or 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall. Screens are also sold in replacement rolls to accommodate various dimensions. It is always best to measure your windows for accuracy before a repair or replacement. If your windows are a non-standard size, you will likely need to order custom screens, which can increase the cost. However, a screen does not necessarily have to fit the entire window, so you may be able to use a standard-size screen even if your window is slightly larger.
