Small jobs welcome

"We found this company through Home Advisors when we needed extensive repair work on our very large front deck that included removal of several layers of the old Deck 70 coating and decayed plywood, rebuilding the substructure, and eventually applying a waterproof membrane over it before installing a new topcoat. To do this, portions of the stuccoed facade of our house and the deck railing had to be removed to make room for new flashing all around. After we came to an agreement with Dan Betyordekom of I Construction to do the work, we braced ourselves for the disruptions and turmoil such a project typically inflicts on an active household (this was not our first such rodeo), dreading the inevitable delays that seem to be part of any construction work. Today, merely 10 days after we signed the contract, we look out on our splendid new deck, which, even according to the building inspector, reflects excellent work. Don's tireless crew showed up on time every day, worked meticulously and professionally, took no shortcuts, cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day, and went beyond our expectations in every aspect. When they replaced the portions of the stucco and deck railing they had removed, they didn't just paint the replaced portions-they painted the whole house wall and railing... Throughout the work, Dan was in constant contact with us to ensure that our normal routines were not affected by the work, and even made sure that the deck would be finished and usable for a baby shower we had scheduled for our son and his expecting wife. The deck was finished in time, and the party was a blast!"

"Candido and his crew were fantastic! We hired them to completely makeover our backyard. They had to remove piles of dirt, bushes, old trees, take up the old cement and then lay new sod, lay an entire new concrete patio, and create gorgeous planters for us that surround the entire yard. The entire project was shockingly completed in a week and looked amazing. We have since hired him to put in irrigation systems in our planters and sprinklers in the yard. We also hired him to do front yard clearing work and weeding and that was done in one day. We also recently hired him to take down a closet in a small room to make it bigger, and his crew did that, patched the ceiling, relaid flooring, and then painted the room for us over a week - it turned out amazing! We look forward to hiring Candido for future projects - his crew seems to be able to do it all. Always very quick and the work is great."

"Maximo Construction gave us a great bid, has competent and friendly workers, kept to the agreed upon schedule, and turned out exceptional products in our new composite deck and pergola. Maximo engineered the pergola to hold retractable canopy panels. The pergola is extremely sturdy, symmetrical, and aesthetic. His communication was excellent throughout the entire project. I could not recommend him and his company highly enough. I will definitely hire him/them again!"

House Leveling questions, answered by experts

The polyurethane used for polyjacking will expand and cure in 15 to 30 minutes. After that point, your slab will be safe to walk on and even drive on in the case of a sidewalk or concrete driveway. Double-check with your concrete lifting specialist to confirm a curing timeline, as products can differ.

On average, a mudjacking repair lasts between five and 10 years, though it can sometimes last for well beyond a decade under ideal conditions. Its longevity depends heavily on several factors, including the condition of the underlying soil, environmental conditions like freeze/thaw cycles and erosion, and whether the root cause of the sinking, such as drainage issues, is resolved. Because it doesn't always fix the underlying problem of loose soil, mudjacking is often considered a temporary solution. Proper maintenance and evaluation can help extend its lifespan.

Polyjacking and mudjacking can both be effective solutions for sinking concrete, but they have key differences. Polyjacking, which uses expanding polyurethane foam, is often considered a better option because the foam is significantly lighter than the cementitious material used for mudjacking. This reduced weight puts less pressure on the underlying soil and lowers the risk of future sinking. Polyjacking is suitable for any sinking concrete slab, while mudjacking is typically only recommended for non-structural concrete, such as sidewalks, patios, pool decks, and driveways. The primary drawback of polyjacking is its cost, which can be up to four times higher than mudjacking—as much as $25 per square foot compared to a maximum of about $6 per square foot for mudjacking.

It’s best not to perform mudjacking in the winter unless the ground temperature remains above freezing. Freezing temperatures can cause the slurry to harden too quickly, compromising its strength and longevity. Concrete is also more susceptible to cracking and splitting in cold temperatures, so there’s a higher risk of damaging the slab during the drilling and lifting process in winter.

Yes, expanding foam (also known as polyurethane foam) can lift concrete. This approach, called polyjacking, involves injecting the foam rather than concrete slurry to fill voids and raise the concrete slab back into place. It’s often faster and requires smaller drill holes than traditional mudjacking, though it may come at a higher cost. Some contractors also prefer polyjacking over mudjacking for more damaged and delicate slabs.
