"I was dealing with a lock that didn't work for several weeks. I was told I had to replace my sliding glass door by another vendor. I put a request in on homeadvisor in the evening, got a call in the morning, and received a quote the same day. Jorge came out the next morning and my sliding glass door lock is fixed. I would highly recommend EZ sliding door repair."

"I discovered Rick Kocar of Fab Pro Services 10 years ago. He was initially referred to me as a handyman, but has since completed hundreds of repairs and small jobs as well as several beautiful remodels of a kitchen, family room/fireplace, and most recently a master bath. Rick is what we wish all handymen/remodeler could be - honest and responsive, approaching each job to give you what you want for the best value. I know what I like, but not necessarily what works with what, and he shows me options that fit me description perfectly, and gives great advice as to what will look and work best for my project. When I first met Rick and he'd done a small job for me at a house in Palos Verdes, my roof started leaking during some heavy rains and he drove all the way down from the northern end of the valley to take care of it - the same day I called! What I really appreciate is that Rick seeks out vendors and products as if it were his own money he is spending, and doesn't add big mark-ups for himself. When I wanted a much larger glass slider to better showcase a beautiful back yard, he found a premier brand door that had been ordered by someone else who then cancelled, so I got this door for about half what I otherwise would have spent! I also have dogs and could never have someone come work at my house when I wasn't there because they love to run out the door. But with Rick, he loves dogs and it was such a relief to be able to relax while at work knowing that whenever he comes he will not only make sure they're safe but also plays with them has been a game-changer for me. During one of my first jobs, one of the dogs had dug under a fence and gotten away during the day, and Rick drove all over the neighborhood until he found him. Not many in this industry that would have done that, as it wasn't his fault. In fact, shortly after that, he dropped additional posts under the fence to prevent him getting out again. When I sold my home in which Rick had remodeled my kitchen, family room and fireplace, so many realtors and people who came to view the house wanted the name of whoever had done my remodel that I asked Rick for some of his cards to put out next to the realtor's card! As you can tell, I'm a big fan of Rick's and I'm happy to recommend him, as I have to so many people."

"We hired McCormick Home Builders to remodel our living room, and we are beyond pleased with the result. The team was professional, worked efficiently, and Aris design ideas made a huge difference. The room feels so much brighter and more spacious. This was the best decision we made for our home, and we were already planning our next remodel with them."

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

You can often fit a new door slab into an old frame as long as the frame’s in decent shape. The frame needs to be solid, square, and free of warping or rot. The new door has to match the old one in width, height, and thickness, and the hinge and knob placements need to line up or be adjusted carefully. However, if your frame is damaged, swapping just the door won’t cut it. In that case, replacing the entire unit would be the best move for a smooth, secure installation.

If you feel like your gate hinge needs hinge oil, then a silicone spray can work well. Another option is using white lithium grease. Fencing experts recommend lubricating gate hinges annually to prevent problems with operation and corrosion. Depending on how large the gate hinge is, it’s possible you may need to apply the lubricant with a grease gun.

To remove painted-over hinges for replacement or paint removal, you should use a utility knife to score around the edges of the hinges gently. Work very carefully so as not to damage the surrounding area. From there, you can unscrew the hinges and gently pry them off the door, making sure not to bend the metal.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include: The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes. You notice cracks, holes, or rotting. You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed. You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.

If your door handle turns without opening, the most likely culprit is a loose or stripped spindle. This part connects the handles to the latch mechanism, and when it’s not properly engaged, turning the handle does nothing. Other issues might include a broken latch, loose screws, or even something small blocking an inner mechanism. In any case, it’s usually a matter of tightening, adjusting, or replacing a worn-out part inside the handle assembly—or calling in a professional to do it for you.
