"I recently had a whole-house generator installed by Nick and his crew. I must say it was a pleasure dealing with this company, from the office staff to the installers. Everyone was so accommodating and mindful of my concerns and requests. The parts and tools they brought took up half of my back yard but at completion of the job, which took a full day, everything was removed and all my planters and other things were put back as before. A very seamless operation indeed. I would not hesitate to recommend LT generators."

"William and his team did a fantastic job upgrading our meter panel. They took care of all the permits and had the job done on time and on schedule. They were extremely communicative throughout the entire process and I would use them for all electrical services in the future."

"Sergio did a fantastic job! Very happy with the clean install of my tier 2 charger and he added a plug down below my panel. Would recommend for any sort of EV charging installs! Clear communicator, showed up when he said he would and his services were well-priced!"

"Impressed with Luis & team. First installed new outlets for a TV, moved an outlet, installed outdoor lights, then upgraded my electric panel. Each time great work, very reliable, and I know it’s fairly priced."

"I needed a security light installed with motion detection for safety reasons on my garage. I called Wilson Electric because of their good reviews and they turned out to be great! I had contacted them via phone on May 3rd at around 2pm. Bryan answered the call on the second ring! I explained to him the work that I needed to have done. He gave me an initial quote of $220 for the job since it was not just a quick switch out or replacement. They actually had to make a hole in the drywall and do some wiring so the price was absolutely fair in my opinion. Bryan was awesome and put me on the schedule for 8:30 am to 9:30 am the NEXT DAY. His crew showed up TEN MINUTES early and were ready to work! I was very pleased with their work, cleanliness, knowledge and demeanor. The job ended up costing $190.00. I gave them a $20 dollar tip because they were that good! Thank you Wilson Electric. I will definitely use you as my go-to guys for my electric needs."

Small jobs welcome

"Great locally owned company, stands behind their work and great communication. The hardest part of electrical workers is getting one that will communicate well. These guys are it. I had a previous electrician who messed up some work, Gold Coast had enough integrity to ask me after the job if it was caused by them. It was not but they were ready to come in and do us right. I am going to hire them to fix the bad electrical work that was done by previous contractor."

"Great experience. John was very professional, communicated well and explained the details about his work and the time required in detail. Arrived at the scheduled time and completed the job earlier than estimated. John took extra care to minimize the impact of the installation on the dining room ceiling. Covered all exposed furniture and then cleaned the entire area when he finished. We couldn't be happier with the results and were left very impressed by John."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.

Setting up utilities on a vacant property usually takes at least a few months, or between 6 weeks to 16 weeks. This process requires working with the local planning and zoning department, hiring a building contractor or engineer to design the utility layout, securing permits, laying the lines, and connecting the utilities.

Natural gas generators are designed to run for extended periods of time, such as power outages during a natural disaster. Since there’s no limit to the supply of natural gas, they don’t need to stop for refills. However, generators do need maintenance, including pauses to check and add oil. Constantly running them will also cause a lot more wear and tear, leading to a shorter lifespan.

In most cases, there are no tax credits available for home generators. However, that’s a general statement that applies to federal tax credits, so you might have access to state or local tax incentives. You can check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) for more information about your area. If you hire a reliable home generator installer, they should also know if there are any state or local perks you can use to reduce your installation costs, including tax breaks and rebates.

The average cost to install a home generator is $5,200, but total costs can range from $500 to $18,000 or more. The final price depends on several factors, including the generator's size, type, brand, fuel source, and the cost of labor and assembly. The generator's size is the most significant cost factor, as units that can power larger homes with higher energy demands cost more.

Cost breakdowns by generator type are typically as follows:

  • Portable or Emergency Backup Generators (1kW–7.5kW): $500–$2,000

  • Partial-Home Generators (9kW–20kW): $2,000–$6,500

  • Whole-House Generators (22kW–48kW): $5,000–$18,000

To ensure you get the right size unit for your needs without overpaying, consider hiring an electrician to calculate the electrical load of your essential appliances. It is also recommended to get at least three quotes from qualified installers to find the best fit for your budget.
