"The owner and his brother were on site every day. They were diligent, hard-working, and determined to do the best job possible. In addition they were able to install a solar gate to the driveway. I am extremely pleased to recommend this company. 5/5 stars plus more if possible."

"My review is already out there. I wanted to add that when Travis arrived, the garage area where he needed to work was cluttered and he helped my wife move the clutter. Also my wife did not know that our old water heater was missing earthquake straps so she had not mentioned this as part of the job. Travis did not have straps on Sunday but he returned on Monday early in the morning and installed the straps for only $20."

"The Groundworks folks (formerly Bay Area Underpinning) applied their foundation-underpinning technology and expertise to extend to bedrock, level, square up the foundation for an extensive house remodel. I was most impressed by the young man onsite supervisor, Josh who answered all my work done, how and why questions. I wish this info was provided up front by the estimator. (My design-build remodel contractor referred this company)."

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

No, you can’t drain your sump pump into your home’s sewer system. In fact, it’s against the law in many places because dumping extra water into a municipal water system can disrupt or overwhelm the treatment process. And for similar reasons, you shouldn’t discharge a sump pump into your septic system, either.

There are dedicated sump pump pros in most areas who can install sump pumps. However, plumbers and waterproofing specialists should also have a good amount of experience with installing sump pumps. If you don’t have any dedicated specialists in your area, reach out to a basement waterproofing specialist or a plumber.

Submersible and pedestal sump pumps are two popular types of sump pumps. Submersible models are covered by water in a sump pit, which helps keep the motor cooler and quieter. Pedestal sump pumps stick out of the sump pit, so the motor stays dry and is easier to access. Submersible sump pumps are the pricier option, but they also have longer life spans.

In most cases, standard homeowners insurance policies do not cover damage from a sump pump failure or overflow. Coverage for water damage is often limited to sudden, unexpected events like a burst pipe that was not caused by negligence. To be covered for sump pump issues, you will likely need to purchase a specific rider, endorsement, or additional water backup insurance. If your insurer offers this type of coverage, they may require proof that your sump pump is regularly maintained.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.
