"The owner and his brother were on site every day. They were diligent, hard-working, and determined to do the best job possible. In addition they were able to install a solar gate to the driveway. I am extremely pleased to recommend this company. 5/5 stars plus more if possible."

"Owner, Gus, is very personable, professional and accommodating. My driveway was old, cracked and broken. The guys have repaved it and it looks great. Waiting for them to come back and seal it. They were careful working around the plants that line my driveway. So, far, I am very happy with the results."

"I had an outdoor kitchen project that left incomplete by the last contractor. Maplewood Landscaping came in, fixed the pavers with the right slope, resealed everything, and really turned the whole project around. It finally looks and works the way it was supposed to. I am genuinely thankful for the work they did."

"The pro underbid the job. Still, he said he would take the loss. I asked him to look at receipts and we covered the extra materials. In the end the job was still lower than the other bids and accomplished on time. We replaced a failed TREX deck with concrete. The plastic decking had become soft, and flexed enough when walking on it that it became a trip hazard. There were two experienced and hard working crew. the younger relative was learning the paperwork, bidding and scheduling end of the job. The crew let him learn by experience and did not complain about his mistakes. The job was expertly done. Recent rains show that there are no low spots and everything is almost imperceptivity sloped to drain the surfaces into areas I had identified. All the work was done on time and all the demolition materials were stack out of the way and job site clean up was done daily. I am truly a satisfied customer."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

When hiring an asphalt paving contractor to install your driveway, ask as many questions up front as possible. Here are a few questions to ask a prospective driveway contractor:

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you have worker’s compensation?

  • Do you use subcontractors on your projects?

  • Do you clean up after the job is done?

  • Who is responsible for any damage to lawn or landscaping?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Do you give free estimates?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three references?

  • Can I see some of the work you’ve done?

Overall, a paver driveway is considered the easiest to maintain because homeowners are able to do driveway repair one piece at a time without impacting the rest of the driveway. Unlike paved options, paver driveways contain individual stones that aren't physically connected. By comparison, you may need to reseal or redo a full asphalt driveway if just one portion sustains a significant crack.

While the specific timeline for building a driveway can vary based on driveway length and local weather conditions, the average concrete driveway can require several days to lay down all of the different parts of the driveway. The curing process may require you to avoid using your driveway for a week following construction. Heavier vehicles should be kept off of a new concrete driveway for several weeks. Building a gravel driveway may take just one to two days in total.

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
