Pacific Coast Termite has a great history serving California since 2007 by co-owners Dennis Wilson and James Grande. Both men agree that a large part of their company’s growth is attributed to word of mouth and referrals along with great reviews and A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau have also helped. Today the company has full in-house wood working divisions, offers comprehensive termite control, rodent control, and attic services such as attic cleaning and TAP pest control insulation to replace old soiled attic insulation.

"Horrible experience, the employees were very poorly trained. They severely underestimated the time to do the job. They sealed holes in vent screens with big globs of unsightly goo. The crawlspace access door wouldn't stay closed do they pried a stepping stone out of the garden and used that to hold it closed. They spit sunflower seed shells all over, including on our front porch furniture. They vacuumed the old insulation out of the attic but there was a leak in their system and it spewed old insulation and rat droppings all over the inside of our garage and on open storage shelves, and they didn't clean it up. They only apply blown-in insulation and our ducts are covered with sheet insulation, so they didn't remove that insulation or the rat droppings on the tops of the ducts. I could go on...."

"called this place because it was a local smaller business and I wanted to give my business to a small town business and they came out the gentleman was very nice he sprayed the inside and the outside of my house he told me I have 30 days and they would come back if I seen any more ants I did see more ants so I called they came out and did a respray on the outside of the house I wasn't home so I wasn't able to let them in to do the inside a week later I found even more ants in the back part of my house in my bathroom and my closet there's absolutely no food in my bathroom or my closet so I don't know why there's ants there I called them back to ask them what should I do I was told that they would talk to technician and call me back I waited a week and they didn't call me back so I called back in at that point they told me there's nothing they can do I'd have to repay the $150 to have him come back out again now why would I pay another $150 to have them come out and do something that they didn't even clear up the first time they did it I didn't expect for them to come out for free but I expected a discount an apology something as I still have the ants that I called for originally I will no longer be giving my service to them and I suggest you don't either I called terminix and they're going to handle the problem"

Whether you should stay in the home during a pest control service depends on the type of treatment. Some types allow you to stay, while others such as fumigation will require you to leave your home. Some natural applications are known to make bed bugs unhappy, like peppermint and tea tree oil. But bed bugs are tenacious and as long as there are sleeping humans around to feed on, they’ll stick around. It’s best to destroy them outright by using heat, steam, or fumigation methods.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), fleas can carry human disease-causing pathogens for Plague, Flea-borne typhus, and Cat scratch disease. These diseases are caused by fleas such as Oropsylla montana, Xenopsylla cheopis, and Ctenocephalides felis, and are commonly found in rural areas of the western United States, California, Texas, and Hawaii. Fleaborne parasites like tapeworms can also be spread to people and animals if they accidentally swallow an infected flea, and small children are at a higher risk. Symptoms may not be present in most infected people.

It’s debatable, but most will say either termites or bed bugs are the hardest to remove. When dealing with termites, you must find the central nest (as opposed to satellite nests) and exterminate the queen and all potential queens, which often takes the work of a specialist. Bed bugs, meanwhile, are incredibly hardy, good at hiding, and resistant to pesticides, so it takes very careful, very thorough work to get rid of them permanently. 

Some of the smells we love are, thankfully, pretty putrid for mosquitoes. A few essential oils that might have them swarming in the other direction include:

  • Cinnamon

  • Thyme

Be careful how and where you apply essential oils around pets and children, and top them off regularly so they stay effective.
