"Dan and Zach were easy to work with. They were the first to show interest in the job. Dan called to get a better idea of what the issue was last night late in the evening. We spoke this morning and Zach was able to come by this afternoon. We ended up doing work on two doors. Zach was quick to identify the issues, explained what needed to be done and competed the work in less than 90 minutes. We we were happy with the speed of the work, the friendliness and helpful personalities of both Dan and Zack and the cost of the repairs. Thank you, both."

"We were very pleased with the work completed by Igor. His communication with us was excellent. He was able to fit us into his schedule quickly. He was friendly, professional and prepared for the diversity of our projects - carpentry, drywall replacement, painting, doorknob repair, mailbox replacement, and caulking. The end product of his work was terrific! We will definitely contact Igor again for future home projects."

"Our rental property needed complete renovation, including extensive retexturing and prep work on damaged walls and ceilings. Damion's work was excellent and he was cheerful and absolutely professional from the first contact to the last. His price was competitive (we had three bids) and we are thoroughly pleased with the results. Damion proved knowledgeable of many repair and painting methods, he was consistently on time, so polite, and always cleaned up afterward. Our rental unit looks brand new! I highly recommend Jonesy Painting."

"Handyman was very thorough and professional. He had three different jobs that I needed done. He explained the options that I had for each jobs each job in detail that he completed. I was very happy with the outcome of all three jobs. The jobs were replacing closet doors, repair wood floor damage from water and replacing one tile in the shower. I would hire him to complete other jobs and recommend him to my friends and family."

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

If you’re having an issue turning the key inside a lock, chances are there is dust or dirt buildup within the cylinder. The easiest solution is applying a dry lubricant to the lock, which loosens the dirt buildup. You may need to turn the key a few times for it to work properly again.

The cost of folding patio doors is higher than the typical patio door cost because of their size, complex mechanisms, and additional hardware needed to operate them. These doors may stretch as far as 18 feet, require specialized installation from an expert, and have many more moving parts that could malfunction if not installed carefully.

WD-40 can be used on squeaky door hinges, but it is generally considered a temporary, short-term solution rather than a long-term fix. While it can silence a squeak in a pinch by breaking down rust and grime, it is not a true lubricant, as it contains only a small amount of lubricating oil that evaporates quickly. Using WD-40 alone may lead to the squeak returning and can attract dirt and dust, potentially causing more wear on the hinge over time. For a more effective and lasting solution, it is recommended to first use WD-40 to clean the hinge, then wipe it clean. Afterward, apply a dedicated lubricant such as silicone spray, white lithium grease, a metal or plastic lubricant, or an oil-based product like petroleum jelly.

In some cases, you can repair a cellar door instead of replacing it. Whether you can fix it depends on how severe the damage is. For instance, if you have a leaky cellar door, you can repair it by adding weather stripping and caulking it. You would need to fully replace it for more extensive problems, like rot due to severe water damage. A pro can help you determine whether you can repair your bulkhead door.
