"Brad Sayer Landscape Services Inc handled my front and back yard makeover. Brad's vision for my landscape turned out beautiful. His crew is awesome, they work fast, no nonsense, friendly, and I cannot emphasize that they know what they're doing. I was happy this project was completed early with no unexpected issues. In addition, I love my new drip irrigation. The neighbors all around have been complimenting how beautiful my yard is, how much they like the plants, and colors chosen. I would highly recommend their professional outstanding service for design and installation -- it is so worth it. Diane"

"I had two different contractors come out to look at my irrigation System and neither one could figure out what the problem was. Then I found Greg. He came out, diagnosed the problem, and had it repaired in under two hours. He also found two more valves on the property that we did not even know existed. We had Greg come back and do some tree pruning for us at a later date. The trees looked great when he had finished, and it was much cheaper than the estimate we had gotten from one of those big tree companies. Now Greg is our go to guy for anything landscaping. Highly recommend him"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

There are several possible reasons why your Bermuda grass is not thick, with the biggest reasons being too little water, too much shade, compacted soil, drainage issues, and too few nutrients in the soil. Bermuda grass needs frequent and direct sunlight to stay thick, so thinning grass is likely the result of a lack of sun.

Common options include Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, and ryegrass. Choose based on climate and lawn usage.

Foxtail self-seeds and dispurses them among other grasses and pastures. The seeds can spread by wind and by attaching themselves to animals and humans. Seeds will germinate in their new location and become a new plant, which continues the spread of foxtail. Unfortunately, foxtail spreads easily, making it difficult to remove unless it’s caught quickly.

Yes, you can overseed your lawn without aerating it, but results may vary. If you have the time, dethatching or aerating your lawn before overseeding will yield the best results. Overseeding your lawn without aerating will work, but less seed will take root. For the best possible results, aerate your lawn before overseeding it.

First, you should figure out whether you have dormant or dead grass. Dead grass won’t come back, so you’ll have to reseed if you’re hoping for a lush lawn. However, grass can go dormant if it hasn’t received enough water or if temperatures are too cold. If it’s still decently warm outside, you can revive dormant grass by watering it. But if it’s mid-January in New England, for example, you’ll need to wait until the weather warms up again. If you want to keep grass green in winter, consider a grass like Kentucky bluegrass, which maintains its color year-round.
