Family business in the quad city since 1977. With a proven track record of professionalism incorporated into a broad spectrum of services provided though pest control as well as trees.

"A horrible experience! Jared came over first thing in the morning to treat our trees, but took it upon himself to mess with the control valves for my sprinkler system. As a result of his actions, the sprinklers ended up being stuck on all day because a valve wouldn’t close. When I called him later that day, he claimed they were on when he arrived. Unbeknownst to him, I have cameras around my house and the recordings clearly show this not to be true -- the sprinklers were off. I have camera footage that clearly shows all sprinklers off when he accessed the valve box after arriving, then sprinklers on as he continues messing with the valve box, then him departing and leaving the sprinklers stuck on. Worse yet, he never mentioned the problem to anyone – he just left! I contacted Greg (the owner) and he expressed concern and told me they'd take care of the repairs. After the repairs were done by a qualified sprinkler repairman, I called Greg and he got very upset, refused to pay for anything, wasn't interested in seeing the camera footage, and ended up telling me to get a lawyer and hanging up on me. To this day, Greg Flippen refuses to pay for the damage and claims the sprinklers were malfunctioning when Jared got there – a completely false claim. Beware of this company and definitely don’t let them access your property without you being there."

Lawn Fertilization and Treatment questions, answered by experts

If you plan on laying new grass seed, try to wait eight weeks before stepping on it. You might need to wait an entire season to drive your car across the driveway. Sod establishes itself in the ground in about two weeks.

In the fall, you should aerate the soil, overseed the bare spots, kill weeds, mow the lawn low, and rake your leaves. By boosting your lawn’s health in the fall, your grass will be stronger throughout the winter and come back healthier in the spring. You should also trim your perennials so that they withstand the winter and are ready for new growth in the spring.

Whether or not grass will fill in bare spots itself depends on the type of grass you have. For example, grass with rhizomes (e.g., Bermuda grass) and stolons (e.g., Saint Augustine grass) will naturally fill in bald spots as it spreads laterally. However, clump-forming grasses will not spread.

Some of the particular herbicides that work best to get rid of nut grass without killing the grass include Halosulfuron-methyl, mesotrione, sulfentrazone, and metsulfuron. A herbicide like glyphosate would kill nutgrass, but it will kill nearby plants, too.

If maintained correctly, natural grass should last between five and 15 years, or up to several decades, depending on your home’s climate conditions. You can extend your grass’ lifespan by treating it well, including regular mowing, weeding, watering, and preventative pest control. Consider hiring a local lawn care service to provide everything your grass needs to live a long, healthy life.
