Ive been offering cleaning services for over 20 years. Started with park model rentals for vacationers in Parker Az on the colorado river (which would be equivalent to todays Airbnbs). I enjoy cleaning homes, especially for those who may have a hard time getting it done themselves. I offer competitive rates I dont beleive in price gouging as life is already expensive enough. I like to give my elderly and disabled who are on fixed incomes a discounted rate for obvious reasons, my heart is always in it and I like to get things done the way my customer prefer. Help me help you!

Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A thorough dryer vent cleanout improves efficiency, reduces energy consumption, extends the dryer's life, and decreases fire risk from lint buildup.

You’ll find the backdraft damper near the top of the range hood (where it connects to the ductwork). However, some range hoods also have a second damper, which is located close to the roof or exterior wall where the ductwork ends. If you don’t see a damper in either of these places, you might not have one.

Dryers pull in air from a circular opening in the back of the dryer. The dryer's heating element heats the air, and a blower fan circulates the hot air through the drum. The hot air travels outside the dryer through a vent or is cooled by a heat exchanger that condenses the steam into water and sends it down a drainpipe or to a containment compartment.

Depending on how much you use it, your dryer should be disinfected about every six to 12 months, especially if you see frequent buildup of lint or evidence of stains from fabric bleeding or ink.

Other signs you should sanitize your dryer more often are overheating, improper drying, excessive humidity, or if you notice a strange odor when it’s running.

There are a few things you can look out for that indicate it’s time to clean your dryer vent, including the following:

  • It has been a year or more since the last professional cleaning.

  • Your clothes are taking longer to dry than usual.

  • Your clothes smell musty or burnt when they come out of the dryer.

  • You see lint building up around the outside dryer vent cap.

  • Your laundry room is unusually hot.

  • Your dryer is unusually hot to the touch during operation.

  • You notice a kink in or damage to the vent.
