"We purchased a townhome in Flagstaff several months ago. The unit is situated on a small hill with a pine forest to the rear. There was a small patio in the rear yard. However, the soil was eroding down the hill into the valley below and the patio was cracking due to the unstable soil. I contacted Angelsun Landscaping and Michael inspected the problem and came up with a solution to stop the erosion and stabilize the rear yard with a retaining wall and extending our brick paver patio. JP, Michael's father suggested additional items and solutions. The work took just a little over a week. We were not at the property while the work was taking place. When we arrived to view the work...we were totally blown away by the improvements. They were better than expected. The new patio was magnificent!! In addition, an aluminum wrought iron style fence was added plus a planting area. All the work exceeded our expectations. JP and Michael are the consummate professionals and we would not hesitate to have them do any landscaping work we may have in the future."

"Static Sun did an amazing job on my electrical panel. They found a breaker burning in the panel and went through all the options with me to fix the problem. They were on time and cleaned up after themselves as well. I highly recommend them!"

"Upgrading this review to 4 stars. Ultimately, Dan was good to his word. It took a while but several problems were fixed. After a first visit with Dan, I thought we would have a great experience. Nope!. Estimated completion time: 10 to 12 working days. Contract dated February 20. Work completed April 16. Once they had most of the money & done most of the work, they lost interest & stopped communicating. Most of the work was completed quickly. They promptly dealt with issues & tended to be pretty flexible. They are not safety conscious with electrical work. Two issues. One, an outdoor electrical outlet. I had to insist that they replace the outlet with a GFCI outlet preferably combined with a switch. They installed a GFCI outlet along with WiFi box that allowed the fountain to be turned on/off remotely. I am concerned about longevity since the switch box is just dangling from the outlet. I would have built an integrated outlet/switch box structure containing and rigidly mounting both components. 2nd issue: Pergola electrical wiring for ceiling fan. I asked for a jbox to which I could mount a ceiling fan. The answer was "No, we are not going to do that." I was told to do it myself. Also, the wiring simply passes through a hole cut into the pergola metal. This leaves the electrical wiring in direct contact with a sharp metal edge. I asked them to install a rubber grommet to isolate the wire from the sharp metal edge. The answer was "No, this is how we always do it". I purchased and installed a rubber grommet myself to prevent cold flow. The biggest issue is with the raised garden boxes that they installed. Whoever built them has very poor carpentry skills. I am absolutely positive that I could have done a better job myself. I do not consider the quality of these boxes to be anything close to professional. Dan, is this something that you would have in your back yard? I would be embarrassed to have built these for someone else. The boxes are functional, for now, but they are not aesthetically pleasing to look at and they are already showing signs of deterioration. I am very concerned about their longevity. I firmly believe that after two or three summers I will have to build shells around these boxes to hold them together. The mitered joints were poorly cut and leave quite a bit of space between boards. A pretty poor attempt was made to fill the gaps with caulking that does not match the color of the boards. Many of the boards are bowed and one top rail is already separated from the structure. An annoying issue with the boxes is that the person who built them could not install screws in a straight line. In one case, most of the screws were in a reasonably straight line. But, one of the screws was offset from the line by about an inch. I pointed this out and the next thing I knew there was another screw installed next to the one that was out of place but was inline with the other screws. Now, there are two screws almost side by side and making things look even worse. In another case, the screws towards the bottom stray away from being on a reasonably straight line. None of the screw holes were drilled/countersunk. Screws were simply driven in until the heads were below the surface of the boards and material started squeezing out. Then they tried to cover the horrible looking screw holes with caulking that does not match the color of the boards."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

It is possible to DIY complete hardscaping projects, but in most cases, hiring a professional is best to get the job done correctly. Hardscaping—including installing patios, decks, retaining walls, walkways, and water features—is challenging and time-consuming, so the money you spend on a professional is typically worth it. Not only will the quality be better, but you could avoid problems that come along with a lack of hardscaping experience, like drainage issues that can lead to costly foundation damage and leaks in your home.

The duration of a lakefront landscaping project is determined by its scope, environmental conditions, and weather impacts. It often takes several weeks to a few months to complete.

A full backyard renovation can cost between $15,000 and $50,000, depending on the scope of the project. Excavation, materials, and labor costs all contribute to the final cost of updating your outdoor spaces, and expensive features like a pool, a fence, or hardscaping carry a high price tag.

You may need to lay sod on the areas you dug up once you get the okay from the contractor. It will take about 30 to 45 days for the sod to take root. Consult a local sod installer to get an accurate estimate of the timeline of your specific yard-enhancement project.

Buying plants from a nursery is one thing, but ensuring that they are properly planted is another. While you might not need to hire a landscaper for every plant that you buy from a nursery, it’s a great idea to have their expertise and experience to plant larger items, like burlapped trees or specialty plants like rose bushes. Even better, before making a trip to a nursery to buy new plants, consult a local landscaper to test your soil for pH levels, soil texture, and phosphorus and potassium levels to help determine the best plants for your area.
