* Locally Owned & Operated Since 1947 * Residential * Commercial * Industrial * Carports * Patio * Walkway Covers * Screen & Glass Enclosures * Awnings for Windows & Doors

"Ron @ Koolvent came to the house, took measurements and provided a price to me a few days later. The price was agreed and he ordered the supplies. One of the installers came to look at the site saying he wanted to know what equipment to bring as the porch is on a deck and elevated up to 4 feet above the ground. The installer said, all is OK and he'll see me next week. This was in February 2020. Then Covid arrived and I did not hear anything for a few weeks. I didn't pursue given the situation. Fast forward to late May, I called to inquire and Ron told me this time his installer was not comfortable now because there is a pool pump at one side of the deck. For this reason he said he would not continue with the project. I asked why on earth he never called me and the answer was he was busy. I find this lack of professionalism unacceptable and would advise others to think twice before considering working with this organization."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

Awnings last five to 15 years on average. Vinyl awnings offer a long lifespan, but other fabric types can also last a long time if you regularly clean them and repair them as needed. To extend their lifespan, you should clean your awnings at least twice per year.

The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.

Acrylic, polyester, and vinyl are common options. Choose based on durability, UV resistance, and style.

Awnings are either fixed or retractable and can be paired with a variety of cover materials. Fixed awnings are a permanent outdoor feature of a building. These are highly durable and require ongoing maintenance. Once installed, the position of this awning cannot be changed.

Retractable awnings are more popular than fixed awnings since the cover can open and close. This allows homeowners to open and close the awning, depending on the weather. When not in use, it can be closed to allow for extra space.

Retractable awnings offer numerous advantages for homeowners, including protecting your outdoor furniture against the elements. It can also help keep your deck in better shape since it adds a layer of protection against sun and precipitation.
