My job was difficult to say the least installing a ceiling fan on a two story high living room that required Scaffolding 3 levels high and a step ladder on top of that. It was scary and nerve wracking to see him up so high and nervous he would fall and get hurt. It didn’t seem to bother him at all. He was so professional and courteous. I would highly recommend him! Learning how to repair rotted wood is something that you can do after stopping existing wood rot from spreading. After removing the wood rot, you can put new wood in place of the ruined wood or use wood putty to repair minor damage. However, because wood rot is difficult to eradicate without expert help, you may want a professional to do it. Do not attempt repairs in the area until you are certain that all the damaged wood and signs of wood rot are gone.

Start with a 60- or 80-grit sandpaper when sanding a deck, though this could change depending on the type of wood that comprises the deck and how smooth you want the overall finish. If you prioritize a smooth final finish, progress to a finer grit like 120 or 150. Avoid ultra-fine grits for traditional sanding, as it could close up the wood pores and make it harder to apply a finish down the line.

While porches and decks are similar in some ways, the two structures aren’t exactly the same by definition. A porch is a covered structure that’s usually attached to the front of a home. On the other hand, a deck is an open structure without a roof that’s often attached to the side or back of a home.

Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.
