"s the temperature outside my house continued to drop last night so did the temp in my house. Woke up to 62 in the house. Called Charlie at Diamond State Heat and Air immediately. Why? Because, this past summer I called another company who charged me an arm and leg in repairs just for it to not work. Charlie came out fixed their mistakes and helped me hold them accountable, thus resulting in them not charging me a dime! and my Air worked great even through December. Royce, one of the crew showed up at 730 this morning and confirmed what I had been dreading, my old heating unit needed to be put down. He went and brought space heaters to help keep me and my pets warm, told me to block off unnecessary rooms. At 11 am he let me know that he was able to find a unit. On a Sunday. In the sleet and snow! It's now 2 pm and he's out there busting his tail before the roads get too bad. I can't express the gratitude I have for these guys. Thank you Diamond State Heat and Air for coming to my rescue again!"

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

Maintaining your central vacuum cleaner is crucial to extending its lifespan. Ensuring the filter is cleaned or changed often is vital to ensuring clogs don’t impact your motor. In addition, inspecting motor brushes regularly and lubricating the engine when needed helps keep it in tip-top shape. Finally, cleaning the central vacuum hose of dirt and debris helps keep clogs at bay, especially if you’ve vacuumed something wet or sticky.

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

Common repairs for central vacuum cleaners include motor repair, electrical repair, and blocked filters. Central vacuum motor issues typically come with a burning smell and loss of suction. With these issues, you might need simple lubrication to keep it running smoothly, or for more extreme problems, you could need a motor replacement.

Electrical problems or losing suction strength, might be reasons to swap out electrical components for new ones. However, a local central vacuum repair professional can tell you the best plan of action for your system.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.
