"Utilizing All Service Moving for the move was a very positive experience. They had good communication, answering several questions prior to the move and did a final confirmation just prior to the move date. As for the physical move itself, Jose, Abraham, and Alberto were polite, diligent, and careful moving the many items, and managed to complete the move more quickly than anticipated."

Small jobs welcome

"This is an awesome moving company. I had to find movers at the last minute, less than 24 hours an Terrion was very gracious to accommodate me & at a really good rate. I even change the move date & he worked with me on that. The movers did an incredible job moving all my home valuables, furniture and all into a storage unit. They arranged everything to maximize the floor to ceiling-space so that everything fit in one storage unit. IDK how they did but they did and they moved my whole house in less than 5 hours. I highly recommend this moving company & I will definitely use them again when I move my things out of storage & into my new home. They were a blessing!"

"The move was professionally done. Members of the moving team were pleasant and informative. They carefully assessed the best way to get the piano in my house. Unfortunately, an accident occurred when moving the piano out of the seller's house, leaving some gashes in the wood along the front of the piano. I was not there and the seller did not see what happened, so have no idea why the damage occurred. The company was most gracious in giving me a reduced moving fee for the damage. This should help in covering costs to try to hide the wood damage."

Moving questions, answered by experts

Moving a house is a complex and labor-intensive process, which is why it can get so pricey, particularly if it’s a large home. In some cases, the house may need to be dismantled, moved in sections, and then reassembled at the new location, which can add significantly to the cost of the move. However, it’s typically less costly than building a new home.

If you need to move heavy furniture inside your house, like a grandfather clock, consider hiring professional movers for this service, too. Many moving companies advertise in-house moving services, including transporting heavy items to different rooms or floors of the house. It’s best to hire professional movers for this task to avoid damaging parts of your home, like narrow stairways or flooring, or the item during the process.

Start by removing any obstacles in the moving path, such as side tables, lamps, or other furniture. If your couch has legs, unscrew them. Measure the couch and the stairway to ensure you have enough room; if it seems unlikely, examine the shape and size of the couch and decide whether it might fit better up the stairway and through doorways on its side, held diagonally, or moved in an upright position.

Consider putting the sofa on a dolly to go up the stairs. It should be able to fit upright on a standard dolly with wheels. You’ll still need to lift the dolly—with the couch on it—up the stairs, but it will reduce the physical strain. The person holding the dolly should pull the couch up, while the helper should be on the other side, keeping the couch secure and steady.

If you don’t have a dolly, the person in front should lift the couch slightly higher than the person in the back to create more stability. The person in the back should also be the stronger mover, as most of the weight will be distributed there.

Yes, you need insurance for a moving pod. Moving insurance is worth the cost because it can help pay to replace any damaged or destroyed items during the move. Without insurance, you’d be on the hook to pay for those replacements entirely out of pocket.

When moving yourself, you should consider the non-monetary costs, such as time spent and physical and mental stress. If you’re packing and moving every box on your own, or with the help of a few volunteers, you can expect the process to take several days or even weeks. While it’s a less expensive option than hiring full-service movers, keep in mind that the process will be much more difficult.
