"Beautifully. Crew arrived on time, worked steadily and did an excellent job. They also did a number of extras--they cleaned the mailbox, front porch, and cleaned mold off the garage doors. I couldn't be more pleased. I'd be happy to recommend this company to anyone. They are friendly, professional, thorough, and a pleasure to deal with."

"A steel pillar supporting our big backyard deck was rusted and broken. I was a little panicked and called Ryan. He listened carefully and came to check the second day. He took the difficulty to go under the slate to make sure other pillars are ok and did this carefully and thoroughly. We are relieved that only the broken one needed to be placed. Ryan did a wonderful job; the replacement looks very beautiful and authentic. Ryan was very professional, patient and polite. He made sure the working area was clean before he left. It was a wonderful experience to have this done and a peace of mind in such a cost effective way. I would certainly call him if I have similar needs for a good handyman job in the future."

"This review is very late, unlike Mr. Tyree and his crew, who did a great job for me in 2018 on-time and on short notice. Mr. Tyree responded very quickly to my initial contact, came on site, assessed the job knowledgeably, and offered good solutions to the questions I had. He then "bundled" add-on work to repair and paint siding at a very reasonable rate. They knocked the job out of the park on schedule. I recommend them to anyone who needs a new metal roof, and I expect they deliver just as well on the other services they provide."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.

Yes, you can build a pool deck yourself, but it takes precision, a lot of time, and many specific tools. You’ll need to create a deck plan, be careful with measurements, cut each piece of wood, secure the pieces properly, and ensure the deck meets building codes. Building a deck around a pool is a rewarding DIY, but it’s time- and labor-intensive, so thoughtfully consider your abilities and the time you have before embarking on this DIY.

In the majority of cases, you don’t need regulatory permission or permits to remove decking components and materials. However, the exception is if you live in or near a wildlife conservation area, which could require permits and consent prior to beginning the demolition. Check with a local regulatory agency for more information.

Most building codes require that railing spindles (also known as balusters) on decks or stairs be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard is often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' which means a sphere with a 4-inch diameter should not be able to pass through the opening between balusters. This rule is in place to prevent small children and pets from slipping through the railing. For the same reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck or floor surface should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is essential to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

Liquid rubber is great for waterproofing, but it can damage your deck if it’s not applied correctly. First, it can trap moisture in the wood if the deck isn’t completely dry before application.  Second, applying it too thickly can create a heavy, rubbery surface layer that peels and cracks under fluctuating temperatures. For the best results, ensure the wood is completely dry before application, and apply the liquid rubber in thin, even coats. A quick inspection every now and then will help you catch any issues early, keeping your deck protected and looking its best.
