"I was so impressed with the level of communication and professionalism from Amy and Hurd. We needed several finishing touches done on our newly renovated Airbnb. They came in and got everything done in record time. The quality of work was exceptional. I really appreciated the pictures sent and the follow up process. I will definitely use them again!"

"Contractor exceeded expectations. Contractor diagnosed issue and resolved, even when project became more complicated. Project started as simple door and frame replacement because of water damage, and turned into larger and longer project that required replacing studs, drywall, and repainting in addition to door frame replacement due to old termite damage because door frame would not secure to damaged studs. Overall, highly recommend Huffs for going above and beyond in repair."

Doors questions, answered by experts

In Mobile, homes with pier and beam foundations may experience settling, causing door frames to shift or stick. Older houses often have custom-sized or ornate doors that require specialized solutions. Watch for uneven floors, cracks near doorways, or signs of water damage at thresholds. Tight hallways, nearby HVAC ducts, or electrical wiring can also make door installation or replacement more complex.

Helpful?

In Mobile, look for warped or swollen doors, rusted hardware, or mold around door frames—these often result from humidity or storm exposure. Large gaps, persistent drafts, or sticking doors suggest poor installation or foundation settling. After severe weather, inspect for impact damage or misaligned frames. Outdated weatherstripping, faded finishes, and inadequate drainage around entry doors also indicate it’s time for professional door service.

Helpful?

In Mobile, homeowners should review local building codes for wind resistance and hurricane safety before starting any door installation or replacement. Properties in historic districts often require special permits or design approvals. Storm season can delay material delivery, so scheduling door service projects from October to April is ideal. Consider impact-rated entry doors for added protection and ensure compliance with neighborhood association guidelines if applicable.

Helpful?

Mobile’s humid, rainy climate means wood entry doors need marine-grade finishes and robust weatherstripping to prevent swelling and moisture damage. During hurricane season, installing impact-rated storm doors and reinforced frames is crucial. Summer heat can cause doors to expand, while intense sun may fade finishes. Proper drainage and threshold sealing help prevent water intrusion, especially during heavy rainfall from June through September.

Helpful?

Door service in Mobile can influence your home’s energy efficiency, especially with air conditioning in humid conditions. Check for HVAC ducts, electrical wiring for security systems, or exterior lighting near the door area. For bathroom or utility room doors, consider plumbing access and drainage. Always ensure that any door installation maintains proper fire egress and meets accessibility standards where required.
