"Very professional. Took as much time as needed to answer questions. Very good attention to detail. Even though a few more rods were needed than originally quoted, they stuck to their original quote price. No surprises. I would highly recommend this company."

"It was time to retire our faithful 27-year-old GE 30” cabinet-mounted double oven. We chose a new GE Profile oven with left-hand swing doors. Owner Scott Elliot arrived on-time with his two experienced assistants. Their large trailer contained every tool and lifting aid needed for a complicated install of the 300+ -lb oven. They dealt with two surprises: a protruding electric junction box, way in the back to remove and re-wire; and the top cabinet crossbar required a Sabre-saw trim-up to fit in the new oven. Both expertly done. He took ( and showed us) inside-oven level readings to assure us that multi-layer cakes would come out uniformly level, not slanted. Scott was fastidious about installation of the stainless steel trim pieces, getting them perfectly level and aligned with the perfectly installed oven. Flawless work, done by polite and professional pros!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Most commonly, aesthetics and practicality influence a move. If your renovation or remodel involves the wall in question, you’ll obviously need to relocate. It all comes down to personal preference. You’ll need to hire a professional electrician for this task, so be sure to hire a licensed pro with plenty of experience with this type of electrical task.

No, it doesn’t matter which of the two wires goes on each of the two switch terminals. Just be sure to put the ground wire in the correct terminal. The ground wire is either green, bare copper, or green with a yellow stripe. The other wires are hot wires and are typically black. They can be used interchangeably.

Upgrading your electrical panel is often worth the cost for safety, improved electrical performance, and potential long-term savings. A primary benefit is preventing electrical fires and other hazards from a malfunctioning panel, ensuring your household's safety. An upgraded panel also provides a steady flow of electricity, eliminating issues like flickering lights and frequently tripped breakers. It allows you to connect additional appliances without overloading the system, which is especially beneficial for older homes with 100-amp service that are prone to overheating. If you run large appliances like central air conditioning, heating systems, hot tubs, or saunas, you might consider upgrading to a 300- or 400-amp service to meet the higher electrical demand. Furthermore, an upgrade can lead to long-term savings on energy bills and potentially lower insurance costs.

In many cases, yes, upgrading your electrical panel can lower your electric bill. Upgrading an outdated electrical panel can make your home more energy-efficient, so you consume less electricity and spend less on utility bills. However, to see these savings, you’ll need to invest quite a bit. On average, installing a new electrical panel costs $1,200 to $2,000, with most people paying around $1,600.

GFCI outlets generally need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years, though some may fail in as little as 5 years, depending on usage. It is important to test them regularly. Signs that a GFCI outlet is failing or has reached the end of its lifespan include: no power coming from the outlet, the outlet not resetting when the 'reset' button is pressed, or the outlet not tripping when the 'test' button is pressed. If you notice any of these issues, it is time to replace the outlet, and it's best to contact an electrician to do so.
