"If you’re home needs repairs, painting or refurbishing and you want a professional contractor to complete your project, then look no further than C & M Professional Painters LLC. For my job, I was seeking a contractor that could perform all exterior and interior home refurbishing. After receiving a fair project quote from Manuel Féria, the owner of C&M, we quickly reached a firm fixed price (FP) contract for all materials and labor required to complete the job and agreed upon a one (1) week start date to commence the project. The project involved both exterior and interior phases. The exterior phase included: 1) the cleaning of all exterior walls, windows, and the roof and gutters, 2) carpentry repair work to replace all damaged wood and trim, 3) the rehanging of the gutters following trim replacement, 4) exterior repair of the chimney, 5) the painting of all exterior surfaces including the metal railings, and 6) the deck repair and final staining. The interior phase included: 1) the repair of drywall cracks, 2) the painting of walls, ceilings, and trim, and 3) the interior staining of newly installed windows. The refurbishing project was completed in two (2) weeks for the agreed upon fixed price. All work was performed by skilled professionals that arrived on time daily, completed their work and cleaned up at the end of each day for the interior phase. All exterior repairs were completed using quality materials done by expert carpenters. The interior and exterior painting was performed with true craftsmanship employing attention to details. I can honestly say that C&M outperformed my expectations for the entire project. The house is now refurbished inside and out and looks truly great, I would definitely recommend C&M to anyone needing home repairs/painting and plan to use them again for future work. In short, if you need a professional and reliable contractor for your home repairs and painting, then look no further than C & M Professional Painters LLC."

"Mr. Godsey way very knowledgeable, very friendly and respectful. He repaired and reinstalled the nightshade and sun screen combo on our motorhome. He reinstalled it but it needed to be moved over a couple of inches.. without hesitation he took the shade back down and moved it where I wanted it. All the while he maintained hiis wonderfully personable attitude. Thank you so much for sending him to us!"

"Erik was a pleasure to work with and was professional and reasonable at all times. He came out and did an immediate repair before a big storm was due and then followed up on other gutter issues at a later time. All the charges were fair and clearly stated before work was done. Options were given and we never felt pressured. Erik and the crew were always helpful. We will contact A-1 first for any future gutter issues."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Ideally, it's best to stain your dock once per year. Applying stain doesn't just keep it looking nice and new; it also helps extend the dock’s lifespan. Since you want to ensure water levels are at their lowest, it's best to have this project done by a professional dock repair service in the cooler autumn or early winter months.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

The staining or painting process involves cleaning the deck, sanding surfaces, applying a primer (if needed), and carefully applying stain or paint for an even, lasting finish.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.
