To prevent Formica from chipping when cutting, use a sharp blade appropriate for the laminate surface. It also helps to score a line first. Another tip is to add masking over the line you plan to cut and ensure you are cutting the Formica face down.

The best blades for cutting laminate are carbide laminate-cutting blades. These blades have horizontal teeth rather than teeth that point upward and cut on the upward stroke. Cutting on the upward stroke, which is how wood blades work, can chip the laminate.
