"Excellent! On the first day, the crew completed all of the prep work. On
the second day, they worked the entire day to complete the project a
full day and a half ahead of their estimated end date for the project.
On the second day, the yard was transformed from lackluster to amazing.
We couldn't be more pleased with the work.
I talked to three
other companies before choosing Southern Appeal Landscape. They were not
the lowest bidder, but they were the only company that actually
diagnosed the problem and offered real solutions. They were prompt,
professional, and they did all work as contracted. The team who worked
on our yard obviously loves their work and they take pride in
perfection. The owner's two sons were part of the crew, and they worked
just as hard as the other crew members. Overall, this was a very
pleasant experience.

"It went well. Very hard workers - personable but professional. They were willing to work very closely with us to get the most bang for our buck. As its an old house that hadn't been kept up, a lot of serious problems were discovered when walls were torn out, floors ripped up, etc., so adding new electrical systems, plumbing/sewer systems, etc to make things safe and up-to-code, added time and unexpected expense. We weren't able to do all we'd have liked to do because our budget was limited. We will update the main bathroom, restore our patio and redo our old hardwood floors as our income allows, and we'd certainly go back to them for that work. Dan's the man!!! :-). He can do anything, it seems!!!

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Depending on who you hire to build a retaining wall, the average cost, including demolition and reconstruction, for a 50-foot wall that's 4 feet in height is between $7,000 and $24,000.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

Regular inspection for issues like cracks or leaning and ensuring drainage stays clear.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.

The lifespan of a retaining wall varies based on its material, installation quality, maintenance, and local climate, with an average range of 20 to 100 years. Retaining walls made from durable materials like concrete, stone, and brick generally last a minimum of 50 years. Concrete walls typically last between 50 and 100 years, while brick can last for over a century in ideal conditions. Timber retaining walls can last from 20 to 40 years, depending on the wood quality, and pressure-treated wood walls average around 30 years. It is important to note that a retaining wall can fail prematurely if it was poorly constructed, for example, with inefficient footings or without necessary rebar reinforcements.
