Our construction contractor had unknowingly cut the vent when we remodeled our kitchen earlier in the year, and the odor was pouring into the house from that line. Not only did Dave come out 3 times to figure out the issue (free of charge), he ALSO came out a 4th time to remove all old iron pipes in our laundry room and cap them with concrete. This was a pretty large job that I assume they could have charged us an arm and a leg for labor....despite the time and effort, and the fact this sudden odor had nothing to do with their prior services performed, Dave repeatedly said they want to "make it right" for me...AND THEY DID! Work date was estimated for October 31 but actually began work nine days earlier (that's called under promise and over deliver). A number of windows needed scraping and sanding, but the real challenge of the job was scraping, sanding and repainting (top grade Porter oil enamel) many feet of peeling and rusting iron roof supports and iron railings. It would have taken me weeks to accomplish the same results and would have been no better than Hatton's work. Seeing the results the price seemed reasonable to me, and Mike provided good tips for do-it-yourself painting techniques and buying the best performing materials. As I am a full-time student and have limited funds, he agreed to charge me $16/hour to mow my front and back lawn. I don't have a lot of land so the entire experience took less than an hour for him to complete, but I still paid him the full $16, which was fine by me. No complaints about his actual ability to mow my lawn. He mowed it fine, and he came by frequently to mow the lawn and came by when he said he would. But, this is by far the worst experience I have ever had with any sort of hired help. Ever. For the past year, another guy has been mowing my lawn for $10/hour and it was working out great, except he left for basic training so I had to find someone else. My landlord found Roger on Craigslist and told me to give him a shot. I had a feeling something was off from the very beginning. The first week I hired him, we agreed on a price and a date and a time for him to come and mow the lawn, and we agreed where I would leave him the check. Despite coming to all of these agreements in the first phone call, he proceeded to call me three more times that week just to verify all of that information. It was weird, but I thought he was just wanted to iron out the details, so I was polite to him and let it go. After those initial phone calls, he cut my grass twice and each time, would call me, leave me a lengthy voicemails while I was at work talking about his exact details about cutting my grass, the blades he used to cut my grass, the upcoming weather patterns and how they would affect grass growth, etc. Now this was getting to be too much, but since he cut my lawn at a decent price, I ignored my instincts telling me something was off. Even though I had specified I wanted him to cut the grass only once every 2-3 weeks, and that I would call him when i wanted it to be cut, he still would call me every few days telling me I needed it to be cut sooner than that and would go into extreme details about the upcoming weather patterns and expected grass growth. Every time he called, he would refuse to get off the phone for at least 10 minutes, and he called every few days, so it was getting to the point that I was getting bothered and creeped out and started dreading picking up the phone whenever I saw his number calling. After a month and a half of working with him, I was starting to try and find other people to mow my lawn, but no one was willing to charge less than $20/hour so I decided to stick with Roger until I could find someone else. It was around that time that I needed to go out of town for 4 weeks. I let Roger know that I was going out of town and when I would be back. He said he wanted to mow my lawn twice in the 4 weeks I was gone, and asked if I could pay ahead of time for one cutting and then pay for the second cutting when I was back in town. I agreed to the terms, and paid for the first cutting ahead of time before I left. Three weeks after being out of town, I started receiving phonecalls from him and long voicemails. Roger had confused the dates when I would be back and started leaving me lengthy voicemails demanding payment and sounded very paranoid that I was trying to cheat him of his money. This really rubbed me the wrong way so I let him know that he had his dates confused and that I would leave him a check at my house as I usually do once I was back in town, but that his voicemails were inappropriate and rude and that I would no longer be needing his services once I returned. A few days before I was due to arrive, he left me a voicemail saying he had rubbed my landlord the wrong way (and he didn't know why) so he was going to leave me an envelope with his mailing address in my mailbox so I could mail him the check directly. I returned on a Friday night and wrote him a check which I was planning to mail to him on Monday. By Sunday, yes--in two days--I had received two "warning" notices from him. Apparently he had been driving by my house and leaving me notes in my mailbox telling me "not to be a deadbeat" and to pay him ASAP. Yes, he drove all the way to my house, twice in one weekend to leave me notes and bills, even though he knew I had just gotten back in town on Friday night and that I told him I would mail him his check on Monday. I was started to get really concerned as to how inappropriate and paranoid he was behaving so I called my landlord. My landlord told me that he had the same experience with Roger. Apparently Roger called him multiple times a day and left him many long voicemails, and it began rubbing him the wrong way too, so he told him to not call back again and to not mow the lawns of any of his other properties anymore. I mailed Roger a check with a note telling him to stop driving by my property and to delete my phone number and to never call again. I think Roger is paranoid and has mental health issues. He is not mentally sound. This is not someone who I want to have knowing my home address. A day after I had mailed him the check and a note telling him to stop coming by my house and to never call me again, I get a call from my landlord that someone had "filed a complaint" to the city of Cincinnati saying my lawn needs to be mowed and I was violating a city ordinance. I can only guess who lodged the complaint. Let's just say, I lock all my doors and windows at night now. Needless to say, I would not recommend him. Ours was a two day job. On day one, he repaired drywall in two bathroom ceilings and one basement wall. His craftsmanship was excellent, and you wouldn't even know there had been a problem with the drywall there to begin with. On day one, he also repaired the risers on our basement steps. Before his work, they were shoddily constructed and incomplete. To complete this task, he cut several pieces of wood just to the right size and nailed them in to place. He did a good job with it. Day one also involved priming certain surfaces to get ready for paint. On day two, he painted all of his work, including the bathroom ceilings, basement wall and basement steps. He did a really good job here as well. We are particularly pleased with the basement steps. They help our finished basement look truly finished, instead of the typical frumpy basement look. For the painting, he was happy to use old paint we already had for the basement wall so we didn't have to buy new paint for that area. He took a color we chose and bought paint at a local paint store for the steps. And he provided his own paint for the bathroom ceilings. We were also pleased with his professionalism. He was prompt and ready to get to work within minutes of his on-time arrival. He responded to emails and calls to iron out details of the work in the days before it was scheduled despite the fact that he was surely working elsewhere on those days -- it's nice to have a contractor that communicates well. He also kept his work tools compact and his workspace clean. We're very pleased with his work and we're now looking around the house for other jobs for which we can hire him.

It had been covered up by a board an unusable for years. We wanted to see if we could make it functional. We were recommended by friends to another company other than Bromwells, but when we got their quote they said they would have to hire Bromwell's to do a portion of the work. So we thought, why not cut out the middle man. We went to their show room in late September and met Todd. He was very nice and showed us an option for an insert we liked very much. However, the fireplace was covered up by a stucco coating and faux brick that we wanted to remove. In talking with Todd, we thought we could do the demo ourselves and then call Todd to have him come out and give us an estimate. A week later, we had the demo done and called Todd to come out. The fireplace was shallow, but we had looked at it and was sure we could knock out a layer of brick in the back to make the insert fit flush with the front. We didn't want it to stick out into the room. Todd agreed they would look at that. We also discussed how to vent the fireplace. It was a double chimney and again we thought with some work, we could tap into the other side of the chimney since it was unused too. It was agreed and Todd went off to do the quote. Two weeks later, we got an email with the quote. It was now latter October. We went down to the store again and met Todd to pick out the new mantel and make a down payment. We were told that Todd would have his plumber contact us about getting the gas line run to the fireplace and we went home happy and looking forward to maybe a new fireplace by Thanksgiving. Well, two weeks went by and no word from Bromwell's. No call to let us know when it would happen, no call to give us a name of the plumber. Then the plumber finally called and came out. He ran the gas line, but when he was done it looked like he had an erector set and had fun in the basement. There was a gas line within 3 feet of the fireplace that would have been a straight run to the fireplace, along a wall and up against the ceiling. Instead, he chose to tap into the furnace supply and wrap pipes around the furnace, hanging the pipe from the furnace duct. I hope we don't have to do any furnace replacement soon because now we have a web of pipe around it. Not to mention that you have to duck under the new gas pipe as you pass by it. I wasn't happy, but at least it was progress. After the plumber, I expected Bromwell's to call and let us know when the installation would then take place. But again, no call. Another week and a half passed and I finally called them. It seemed to me they had no idea that the gas work was done and I was informing them. Not a good sign. So we scheduled a date the following week for them to come out and do the installation. They also told me that they still didn't know if they would have the mantel ready yet. Unfortunately, I had an appointment that I couldn't miss the day they were coming, so my wife stayed at home to let them work that day. I returned home from work, excited to see out new fireplace. I get home and wow.... it was not right. The insert stuck out into the living room 4-5 inches and the venting into the chimney didn't happen. The new plan was to build a metal box sticking out into the living to cover up the insert and we now had a hole cut through the side of the house to vent the fireplace. It was like all the discussion I had with Todd about how to do it, what we wanted, never happened. It was apparent to me these guys did whatever was easiest for them. No attempt had been made to cut the rear bricks out, no attempt had been made to feed the vent pipe up the chimney or tap into the second chimney. I was livid. I called Bromwell's and left a message that night. Todd called me the next morning and to his credit he came out the next day to look at it. It was too late to do anything about the hole in the side of the house, but I wanted that insert tucked back where it belonged. Todd agreed to have his crew come out in a week and take the bricks out. We are now in well into December. This time I made sure I was here. The crew came back out and they were polite and pulled the extra layer of brick out and tucked the instert in. It looked so much better. There were some gaps around the insert so they needed to make a metal plate to go around the insert and cover the gaps. They took measurements and off they went. Finally in the second week of January, we were called to tell us the plate was ready. Again, I couldn't be here when they wanted to come out, so I told my wife, do not let them do anything other than drop the plate in place. We had been waiting since October for them to finish the insert to put new bamboo flooring in and it was now in and I suspected they would want to cut some of the flooring to get the panel in. I knew I could adjust the brackets on the insert to avoid this, so I didn't want them touching it. So they ended up dropping off the panel and just leaving it. I pulled it out of the box when I got home. It was sheet metal that had been bent and cut to fit the opening and then spray painted glossy black. I had expected cast iron to match the fireplace insert, especially with the $250 price tag for this piece of metal. It didn't match the insert in color and looked odd. So I went down to the hardward store and bought a $4 can of high temp paint that looked like cast iron and repainted it. Made a big difference. Then I adjusted the brackets and installed it myself. Extra work for me. Two weeks later, Todd called me and asked if we were ready to have them install the panel. I told him it was done. I had done it. So he asked and quot;Should I just charge the balance on your card?and quot;. After all that had gone on, was I just going to let him charge me without seeing the final invoice? After all the original quote had all the materials for venting it out the chimney and that never happened. I just envisioned them charging me for that and having to fight to get that money back. So Todd emailed me the new invoice within a few minutes. It was accurate, so we didn't complain, we just wanted to be done. It had now been 4 months to get a gas insert. We love it. It is beautiful. If you choose Bromwell's be prepared to supervise, call them to get info, and be there when their working so you can make sure you get what you want. FAQs for wrought iron service projects in Cincinnati, OH
As with any project or material, installing wrought iron fencing has advantages and disadvantages. Some pros and cons of this fence material include:
Pros
Long lifespan with proper maintenance
Very durable
Aesthetically pleasing
Functional as well as decorative
Cons
Requires regular maintenance and cleaning
Expensive compared to other fence materials
Limited privacy
Wrought iron fencing costs about $3,100, on average, ranging from $470 to $10,000 or more, depending on the type of fencing, the length, and any custom design work. You should also consider additional cost factors, such as metal thickness, labor costs in your location, permits, old fence removal, tree or bush removal, land grading, gates, and columns. Wrought iron fence materials cost around $1,925 to $3,500 per project, or $25 to $35 per linear foot.
Installing a wrought iron railing costs about $2,600 on average, depending on the size and your location. Costs range from $700 to $4,600 for most projects. Typically, wrought iron railings cost about $50 to $120 per linear foot, not including labor. Additional cost factors include the material and component costs and any custom work.
Different wrought iron railing finishes include:
Plain black: $50–$70 per linear foot
Galvanized wrought iron: $60–$90 per linear foot
Ornamental wrought iron: $60–$120 per linear foot
A wrought iron fence is worth it if the material suits your home’s needs and the cost fits within your budget. However, wrought iron is not the best choice if you’re looking for a fence that increases privacy. However, if you want a fence and a security gate that complements your brick or stone home with a classy, timeless, and elegant look, wrought iron fencing is a good option. As far as the longevity of wrought iron fencing compared to other materials, wrought iron wins almost every time.
A high-quality wrought iron fence should last a lifetime or even centuries. However, making your wrought iron last as long as possible will require regular maintenance as the material is susceptible to corrosion and rust. Maintenance involves cleaning the fence with soapy water every six months and applying a new coat of paint yearly. While you’re cleaning your wrought iron fence, scrub away any rust or corrosion to maintain its look and viability.
