Would you put wood flooring on your wall?
Wood wall treatments are a growing trend, popular with designers, architects and custom builders.
If you browse home design on Pinterest, you have undoubtedly come across some beautiful interiors featuring this creative, new way to create a high impact interior. Don’t confuse this with the old paneling that many of us grew up with; this is not your grandparents’ wood wall. This is beautiful, handcrafted wood flooring or specially designed wood wall panels that come in a variety of colors, species and textures.
I was watching a real estate show on cable in which they featured a multimillion-dollar apartment in Manhattan. As potential buyers walked through this amazing apartment with a view of Central Park, I was struck by how the buyers were all taken in with a beautiful wood accent wall that was installed near the entry. Imagine the impact one could make on your home.
How Does this Fit into My Home Design?
A wood wall can look rustic, contemporary or modern and is perfectly suited to be used as an accent wall behind a bed or maybe behind a television in the great room or master suite. Wood also makes a great bar or counter front due to its ability to hide damage that would normally require repainting.
How Much Will a Wood Wall Cost?
If this sounds like a good fit for your home, you should be able to find some great pre-finished options at any quality wood flooring store and unfinished options at high-quality lumber suppliers. The prices will vary greatly, but most should fall between $6 and $25 per square foot. The price depends on the species of wood used and the intricacies of the panel, including whether it was handcrafted or machine finished.
