Marks-Woods (MW) was a pleasure to work with from the planning phase through the completion of the project. Their pricing was fair and MW did an excellent job staying on schedule and within the budget. In fact, our project was completed a month earlier than what was originally scheduled. Throughout the project, our project manager and other members of the MW team were receptive to our critiques and change order requests. All questions and concerns were addressed immediately and to our satisfaction. I would recommend MW to anyone that is considering a home renovation. We plan on using them in the future.

Michael Nash Design Build & Homes

This review is for my current experience with Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes during the design phase of my 2022 project. Important note, in 2011, I hired Michael Nash and worked with Shawn as the project manager to remodel my home to include: redesign and expansion of the Kitchen, full redesign of the Master Bathroom and remodel of two additional Bathrooms, design and construction of new home theater and wet bar, remodel of the Dining Room, fireplace, staircase, and new hardwood floors on the main level. The original work received several awards and was featured in a local magazine. We were exceptionally satisfied with the company and Shawn. 11 years later, I find myself living with a progressive disease and needing accommodations to maintain the quality of life in my home. My wife and I decided to add an addition to the main level of our home. Unlike all other major projects, where I receive multiple quotes prior to selecting a contractor, we went directly to Michael Nash. Michael Nash gives us peace of mind knowing we will get the highest quality product and know our needs and wish list will be listened to and incorporated into the design and build. Our project manager again is Shawn and the design phase, as expected, is going great. Work will include a new Master Bedroom, Bathroom and walk in closet, raising all of the floors on the main level to be one level and completely rebuilding an expanded outdoor living space (and storage unit) that a person with a disability can enjoy. Shawn understands my needs as he incorporates accommodations into the design. It has also been great catching up with Shawn about our families after 11 years, as Michael Nash is like family.

All Renovations Inc

The sunroom addition looks great. All renovations built the addition from pictures and drawings I provided. The room came out as I wanted and the workmanship was excellent. All inspections passed the first time. The schedule worked around some rainy weather for the foundation and framing. Jim, the project manager, was easy to work with and understood my design. He was very responsive as we stayed in daily contact via text and site visits. Tony, the foreman, and crew were very experienced and built the room according to the design. Questions about the design and problems that cropped up were answered/resolved quickly.

Phoenix Home Services Inc

Our family decided to build an addition for our house that would replace our large deck with a two-story sunroom, dining room, and large second-story balcony. We also remodeled our foyer and sitting room at the same time; this was a large and complex project. At the advice of our architect, we met with Phoenix Home Services to scope the project. Steve Bowes, one of the owners, was the project lead, and he stayed closely involved the entire time. Scoping went pretty quickly, as our wonderful architect had detailed plans - we met a few times at the house to confirm elements of the plan, and high-level choices for materials, and even met at the Pella window showroom to select windows together. This was our first time doing a project like this, and it was very reassuring to have so much involvement from Phoenix during this phase of the project. When it came time to sign the contract, Steve reviewed all the terms, in-scope work and materials, and anything that would be considered out-of-scope. This was in the middle of the pandemic, and despite supply chain issues and other uncertainties, I felt we came to a very fair agreement and were given an estimate for when the project would begin, which was several months out. This wasn't a surprise, and actually fit our own schedule very nicely. The payment schedule was also extremely fair, with a portion due up front as a deposit, and then scheduled milestone payments throughout the project - it gave me some reassurance that there was clear motivation to finish construction on time and showed that Phoenix had some skin in the game as well. As we approached the start date for the project, we had several touchpoints with Steve, and we were well prepared once things got underway. This is when we were first introduced to Les, who led the exterior crew - they built a fortress of an addition. I was concerned that these new rooms would feel less sturdy that the rooms they attach to, but it is incredibly well built and is as solid as any original portion of this house. As the exterior work progressed, we also got to meet Bob, the master carpenter, who led the interior crew. Bob is incredibly skilled at what he does, and we appreciated how patient he was with us as we changed our minds several times about the design of our interior work and the finishes and details. His work was incredible, and as funny as it sounds, we miss having him around every day! No project is without issues, though, and we ran into unforeseen problems with the design that resulted in a major change- we were faced with the prospect of having to remodel our primary bathroom unexpectedly. Steve handled this situation as well as could possibly be expected - he was able to get a bathroom remodeling crew assigned quickly, gave us a generous price for the labor, and put forth every effort to turn this change into a positive. The silver lining is that we got to work with Martin, who did an exquisite job on our bathroom - the attention to detail he had on our tile work was outstanding, and we're thrilled with outcome. As the project wrapped up, the team was great about managing our mutual punch-list for touch ups, fixes, and miscellaneous items. They finished on time, and the end result looks amazing; we couldn't be happier. We're not calling anyone else for the next project we do - Phoenix proved that they do great work, care about their customers, and delivered on their promise.

Michael Nash Design Build & Homes

Michael Nash remodeled my kitchen and added 2 new bathrooms. They did a masterful job and came in on budget. The project was part of a major renovation and won an award for excellence. The designers were excellent, adapting the design to our tastes. They listen, not impose. They also kept within the budget which is rare for builders. They are committed to customer satisfaction. Years after the conclusion of the project they came out to repair my roof at no cost and later fixed a problem with my jacuzzi again at no cost. I was so happy with the experience that I arranged for them to do work at another property, adding a new bathroom and remodeling another bath there. I look forward to working with them again.

MW was excellent throughout the process. Their crew was professional, pleasant and worked hard. We are very pleased with the quality of work they performed. We were very pleased with the communication and options they provided on design and other questions. Their PM worked closely with us throughout the process and kept us informed on progress, issues and decisions we needed to make. When there were questions that weren't covered in the contract, we were able to work with them to mutually agreeable solutions. MW Construction was great, we would definitely recommend them, and would use them again for a similar project.

Bryan Construction Group inc

LOVE OUR NEW HOUSE. We hired Bryan for a major renovation and addition to a 1949 Cape Cod. We generally knew what we wanted and the management and crew worked with us to realize our vision. The work was done on time and on budget (at a fraction of some other bids) and exceeded our expectations. There was a delay due to permitting as well as windows, but they pushed hard and got us in our house on time. There are so many items in a renovation timeline that can throw off a project from finalizing designs, permitting, inclement weather, and special orders. Communication is the key so long as you know what is going on delays do not turn into frustration. We were not living in the house at the time but I dropped in frequently to check on progress. This allowed me to get to know much of the staff and I truly enjoyed my interactions. This was a big undertaking, issues with jobs like these are bound to occur, it is how they are resolved is the mark of a good contractor. We had no roof during the summer when we had some horrendous rains and although the house was properly tarped water did find its way in. A few exterior walls that were not originally slated for removal did get wet, Bryan removed the old drywall and wet insulation and repaired these at no extra cost. Other times, if I noted a concern or felt I saw an issue it was resolved. Amadeo (one of the owners and overall project manager) takes to heart homeowners desires and truly cares, during our frequent walkthroughs if he saw something he didn't like, he had it fixed, even when I didn't notice. The lead framer, Walter, always has a smile on his face, clearly loves his job and does great work. Their electrician Simion hands down the BEST electrician I have ever met. Douglas leads the finishing work and takes pride in his work. Our walls are smooth and our paint perfect. What many do not think about though is... what happens when you get your keys and the house is yours? Houses settle, new construction will shift/settle over time or with that first heavy snow, screw-heads may pop and occasional corner beads too. This does not worry me. Bryan has a 5-year warranty on all their work. I have called them once already and the repairs were made the next day and I couldn't tell they were here. Bottom line, despite any small hiccups along the way we are 100% happy with our home, all who visit cannot believe the quality of the renovation, the open floor plan, the spacious rooms and the little design elements that really make our house great. I pushed for certain elements and they accommodated me and in the end, our house qualified for a Gold rating with Arlington's Green Home Choice program. When we are ready to add a screen porch, I will have them back!

Elite Contractors Services Inc

After interviewing numerous contractors, we decided to go with Elite Contractors for our DC bedroom floor addition and bathroom. I was very please with the work ethic of the company and the employees. The organization not only made our dreams of having a bedroom addition come true but they completed all of the work in less than 7 weeks! Even during COVID-19, the workers were very safe. They came in with PPE, were clean and neat and social distanced as much as they could from my family. This was a great experience overall and I will consider Elite for future jobs

Thomas Custom Builders Inc

They just did awesome work. They were detailed. We wanted a top notch builder, and they certainly were that. We found out we liked them. We had them upgrade all three bathrooms. We had them put in a washer and dryer, and a master bedroom. They converted a closet into a washer and dryer. So, they had to run all of the plumbing. Their attention to detail was phenomenal when we went through the house. They were expensive. They stripped it to the sheet floor, and put in the ceramic tile. The work is spot on. They took a lot of time, which is why they're expensive.

Marks-Woods Construction Services, LLC

Marks-Woods easily ranks number one among the contractors we have worked with over the years. Our project was executed within budget and beyond our expectations with a focus on process, quality and customer satisfaction, from start to finish, from the most prominent feature to the smallest detail. They are committed to a job well done and every last member of their team was a delight to work with. It's such a pleasure to work with good people who do good work, who who remain flexible when the unexpected happens, who correct problems without balking when they inevitably occur, and who maintain a sense of humor throughout. Marks-Woods has earned our very highest recommendation.

Moss Building & Design
5.0
I hired Moss Building and Design for a second story bathroom addition and bedroom expansion. The designers Emily and Liz drew out the entire plan for us and made sure we were happy with the design. The project started on time, building materials and long leads were purchased ahead of time and the day by day schedule was posted on the customer portal. Guess what, they finished ahead of schedule, achieved professional results and were quick to address any issues we had. Wouldnt have been possible without the expertise of our on-site manager Chad Jones, who watched every detail and checked on the house daily. The entire team helped us manage our budget well and were engaged with us throughout the whole process. I would highly recommend Moss and wont hesitate to hire them again

All Renovations Inc
5.0
We contracted with Omar of All-Renovations to build a two car garage for us. We interviewed six contractors and choose him because his pricing was reasonable and his contract/bid was very detailed. Construction began in early April (2017) and ended in mid-May. I believe to total time from start to finish was approximately six weeks. Having a construction site at your home isn’t fun, so I was very happy that his crew got the thing built so quickly. There was someone there almost every day, including weekends. They did a very nice job. The concrete was poured so there’s a very slight peak at the rear corner next to the house, and the whole floor slopes to the low point at the corner next to the garage door furthest from the house. So any water that gets in the garage will flow away from the house and out the side next to the yard. This is very subtle (I doubt my wife even noticed). Sure will make hosing the thing out easy. We choose a single, large (18 foot) door. High winds can blow a garage door in if it’s not well supported. The concrete crew constructed a lip in the concrete just inside where the garage door closes to add support. I’d never seen this done before. The siding is a perfect match to what was on the house. The shingles were as close as you can get given the rest of the roof is 12 years old. We asked for a pull down set of stairs to access the attic so we can use it for storage. Last night, I went up there for the first time and was surprised to see that the attic had a floor and a light/switch – I didn’t ask for that, but it’s a nice touch. I’ve heard so many nightmare stories about contractors who take your money and disappear for months. With the exception of reading reviews, it’s hard to tell a good one from a bad one when you interview them. I don’t often write reviews, but my wife and I are so happy with the garage we got and the relatively short construction time that I decided to make an exception and write one.

Michael Nash Design Build & Homes
5.0
Have been planning a large home addition with Michael Nash for the past year. We especially appreciate their one-price system that saves us from running around to different suppliers for the various materials and furnishings. Everything can be chosen from their vast showroom. It's a year for us to decide on a plan because my wife keeps changing the design. Sean and Oliver have been very patient and helpful with our constant changes and have made the process less stressful than it could have been. We will break ground any day now. Hopefully the build will go as smoothly as the planning process.

Lofft Construction Inc

The work was excellent. I think they are very professional and nice. If there was any kind of problem, even minor, they were always fix the problem with no questions asked. The owner, Alex, was terrific. he was always there when I needed him. The foreman, Manuel was always able to understand everything I needed. He could answer questions even before I asked. Their pricing was very resonable. I had other estimates and they were the best price. Normally constuction experiences are awful and they made the experience as pleasant as possible. I would recommend them to everybody. They were able to hire very good subcontractors, particularly the those that installed my tile and granite countertops.

S Unlimited LLC

Above Expectations. Jose Rubio and his crew (S-Unlimited) provided skillful and thorough construction of a room addition to my town home. Using a roughly drawn plan, his team, in three short weeks, completed the project. Jose has gathered a myriad of skillful craftsmen he can call on in the framing, drywall, roofing, electrical, and painting trades. Changes requested as work progressed were approved, without a flurry of change orders to the contract. The employees and subs were courteous, pleasant, and hard working. I chose S-Unlimted as a local (to Manassas) company, and was rewarded with satisfaction that exceeded my expectations.

Mike Fusco Builder

I called Mike for a quote on a residential living room addition. He was quick to reply, professional and punctual on our agreed date of meeting. He was easy to talk to and had a great wealth of information on building and met all of my requirements. I appreciate his understanding with my limited amount of free time (full time working mom of two kids, one a 6 month old) and the ease of being able to get in contact with him at any time. He was able to give great recommendations for the construction job and a ball park estimate. We are waiting to decide on what direction to go with the build currently but if we are able to afford Mike's level of craftsmanship I know we will be happy with him as our contractor.

Act-Architectural Construction Technologies
5.0
We have been extremely happy with the work of ACT. The proof is in the outcome: our home is absolutely stunning, the work ACT performed is of the highest quality, and we will continue to use ACT for any and all renovation projects. We learned about ACT from our architect, who is one of the most-respected modern architects in this region and who has worked with ACT on numerous projects. We knew our architect has exacting standards, and so we went with ACT. We were not disappointed. Starting with the bidding process, Chris was honest, straight-forward and reasonable. Throughout the project, ACT was prompt, reliable, responsive, and creative in solving the various, unforeseen problems that inevitably arise in a project of this size. Any time a problem arose, or we were not satisfied with any aspect of the project, Chris was absolutely responsive to our concerns and always came up with a better and reasonable resolution. After living through a project of this breadth and magnitude, we have come to realize that ACT's flexibility, creativity and reasonableness in response to unforeseen complications is perhaps one of the most important qualities in an excellent contractor. That, of course, along with the high quality and beauty of the work. We think the end result speaks for itself. If we take on another major renovation, we can't imagine hiring anyone else.

Steadfast Construction Inc
5.0
I requested an estimate for a back addition to our house. Steadfast promptly scheduled a visit for the first available Saturday morning. Miguel Nogales, their design Consultant, arrived on time and spent nearly two hours with us, listening intently to my ideas and surveying the area. He demonstrated expert knowledge of the Arlington County permitting process, providing advice on parameters and what options would tend to work best and be most cost-effective. He patiently answered our numerous questions, such as what heating system would work best in the new construction, and noted architectural details, such as the fact that our brick construction is the type that can be bolted into. All these insights gave me confidence that Miguel would consider all relevant factors to provide a realistic bid. The motive for our addition is a lap pool and Miguel drew on his own expertise with pools and spas to raise several important aspects we had not considered. Within a week, he provided us with computerized mock-ups of the addition, from all angles, that exactly captured my vision for the project. We ultimately went with an architect who suggested a more comprehensive plan for our entire property, but we will definitely include Steadfast in the bidding process and will call on them for future projects.

SAGE CONSTRUCTION
2.0
We had a great initial meeting with Mark who came to us highly recommended. We hoped to work with Sage Construction on our project. Over a month later we are still awaiting an estimate. Is this typical for this company? The first deadline came and went. We touched base and were told, “delays”. After the second deadline cane and went we kindly touched base again. No one has returned our call. We were courteous, giving them every benefit of the doubt. Perhaps they are too busy. Unfortunately, treating customers this way is not a good sign. We are disheartened by Sage’s behavior which reminds us of a contractor who started work for us, took our money, and never finished. Best of luck!
