Barns and barndominiums are most commonly painted red, like barns depicted in movies and paintings. The practice of painting barns red dates back to America’s colonial days, when new farmers would borrow the European practice of mixing linseed oil with ferrous oxide to coat the barns in order to protect them from the elements, leaving the structures with a red color.

In most cases, you’ll need two coats of paint to ensure proper coverage. If you put down a coat of primer first, you could get away with a single coat of paint, but you’ll likely still need two coats. Surface dry is a surface that’s dry enough for you to apply another coat of paint. Touch dryness is a little dryer than surface dryness and will feel dry if you gently touch it, but it’s really wet underneath the initial touch. Hard dry feels fully dry but can dent or smudge upon extra pressure. Thoroughly dry paint is completely dry. 

Roller marks are streaks or smudges that show up on the wall after painting. They can make the paint's surface look textured or uneven. To prevent roller marks, make sure there's enough paint on the roller when you apply it to the wall. You may have to dip the roller in the paint more frequently than you expect to ensure you have an adequate amount of paint on it.

Choosing the right type of roller can also help you avoid streaks and marks. If you're painting an interior wall, look for a roller with a low nap and choose one that's large enough for the job.

Painting over wallpaper is an efficient way to cover it if it’s in decent shape. Before painting over wallpaper, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. You may have to remove minor problem areas, such as lifted seams or small peels, with a sheetrock knife or putty knife. Add a latex- or oil-based primer to keep moisture at bay before painting. You’ll likely need two coats of paint to cover the area.
