There are not many things that I can not do. If I can not do the job, I know people that can do the job. I am not a licensed Plumber or a licensed Electrician but I do use licensed Sub-Contractors for these fields. I have been in construction and built houses and commercial buildings for over 25 years and my wife has painted professionally for over 10 years. In some cases, yes, insulating an unheated garage can lead to mold and mildew. To keep cold out, look for treatments that sit close to the window frame and are made from thick, insulating materials. Layering window treatments, like pairing lined curtains with cellular shades, can provide even better insulation by further reducing drafts and heat transfer.

When temperatures are too cold, it can keep ice from melting, and products like ice melt and rock salt are ineffective. Water turns to ice in temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice melts on its own when temperatures reach above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Ice melt loses effectiveness in temperatures below -25 degrees Fahrenheit, and rock salt works in temperatures 5 degrees Fahrenheit and warmer.
