You can paint concrete with paint rollers. In fact, using paint rollers is considered one of the easiest ways to evenly apply paint on concrete. A paint roller with a 1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick nap—which is basically a fabric paint roller cover—is best for painting concrete. The thicker the nap, the more paint it can hold to fill those pesky concrete cracks and crevices.

Some caulk alternatives, such as silicone putty and spray foam, can be painted over once they have cured. However, sealant tape and caulk strips cannot be painted. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the product is suitable for painting, and use the appropriate type of paint for the material.

While you can paint brick or concrete pavers, you shouldn’t. Even with a matte finishing paint, it still creates a reflective surface where sunlight bounces off. Satin paint is better for high-traffic spaces that need to hold up to a lot of cleaning. It’s also best for spaces where walls are free of imperfections since the light reflecting off a glossy satin finish will highlight them even more. On the other end of the spectrum, think of flat paint for walls with dents or divots you want to conceal. Since flat paint isn’t as strong as satin paint, it’s not great for spaces that need a lot of cleaning.
