"Worst experience I ever had. Over priced, did not address my needs. Never listened to what and how I wanted it to look or work. Did it his way. I told him over and over again that safe access, drainage and ease of care were my priorities. Did not slope walkway correctly, water stands at front porch because of poor drainage. I pointed out the drainage situation several times and it still was not done correctly. I had a general contractor and a landscaper look at his work and was told the correct drainage system was not installs the wall blocks were laid incorrectly and the grout between the tiles was not done properly. Estimate to repair his story work 6-10K. I requested he repair it and he offered to dig a ditch right at my front porch, which would not solve the problem. I asked for retaining walls to be lowered, he failed to do so and now I cannot gate the fence without redoing the entrance to the walkway. Workmanship sloppy and ugly. Topsoil or straw was full of weeds. I will have to reseed come spring. Did not give workers breaks or timely lunch periods. Do not hire. I gave him excellent for responsiveness because he was johnny on the spot when it came to getting the contract. Down hill after that. His reply to my complaints was to ignore or say we had a contract. One of the worst, if not the worst unprofessional experience in my 74 years on this earth"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s okay to trim low branches on a tree, also known as limbing up or raising the crown. Essentially, you’ll trim the lower third of the tree (trunk) and leave the upper two-thirds of the tree (crown). Arborists recommend trimming 20% of a tree’s leaves per season for two to three seasons. Trimming low branches allows light to flow through the tree, increasing circulation and making the tree stronger and healthier.

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.

For the most part, homeowners don’t need permission to cut down a tree on their own private property. But there are some exceptions. If the tree is very large, very old, or protected for any reason (it’s a heritage species, for example), then you may need a permit in order to cut it down. Trees that are close to public property or power lines may also be subject to special rules. You can face hefty fines if you don’t follow local tree protection ordinances, so it’s worth checking with the appropriate government agency before you fire up your chainsaw.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

Leaving a dead tree can expose your other trees to potential diseases, pests, and fungi, and it can also be a hazard. If your tree is dead, then you should hire a tree maintenance service to remove it. Cutting down trees is extremely dangerous, and a professional can ensure no one gets hurt and there is no damage to your property. Tree removal costs between $200 and $2,000 and will prevent future issues and keep you and your property safe.
