Stone Slab Countertops - Repair (Granite, Marble, Quartz, etc)

Serving Elkview, WV and surrounding areas

Approved

I am a young business owner and brand new father! I have worked all over the construction industry from a young age and became a licensed plumber before I finished highschool. The name “One man” Freelancing was inspired by my service in the WV national guard where I still currently serve as the “one man” a term given to the cannon crewmember who loads and fires the artillery cannons. I have a broad range of knowledge and problem solving skills, if I don’t know how to do the job I will surely be able to learn and you will not be disappointed with results!

"We stopped in the showroom one day this summer when we were thinking about starting our project.  Even though we just walked in without an appointment, Cheryl took the time to meet with us and answer all of our questions.  We found granite that we loved and because there was a good sale that was ending soon, we purchased the granite.  Cheryl wrote the very detailed quote and allowed us to take the wall sample so we could match carpet, tile, etc. to the granite. She gave us specifications for the sink, since we were purchasing that separately on our own.  We had only looked at granite one other place before we purchased but did a little bit of research after the fact and found that we got an excellent price on the granite.  When we were ready for the measurement, someone (I can't recall her name) came to our house, set up all her lasers, and took exact measurements.  She was super friendly and knowledgeable.  We ended up adding approximately 2 sq. ft. to the original amount we purchased but since we changed the sink from an undermount to a drop-in, the price change was a wash.  We did not owe any additional money and there were no hidden fees we had to pay.  Everything was very clear and up-front.  The granite was ready approximately 2 weeks later.  The installer, Rich, called ahead and arrived with his team to install.  He was very nice, professional, and really knew what he was doing.  It only took a couple of hours to install.  The granite looks absolutely beautiful!  Every employee that we worked with was helpful, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.  Of all the companies and people we have dealt with through this remodel, Origins was by far the easiest and least stressful.  Everything exceeded our expectations.  I would DEFINITELY recommend Origins to anyone thinking about granite (or any other surface they offer.)"

Marble and Granite questions, answered by experts

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

Marble countertops are often considered better than limestone because of their superior durability and luxurious appearance. Marble is harder and less prone to scratching and denting, though it still requires maintenance and sealing to prevent stains and etching. Marble is typically more expensive, but its beautiful veining and range of colors offer a high-end look.

Baking soda can damage some countertops, but it makes an excellent mild abrasive for removing stains on other countertops. For example, never use baking soda on quartz or glass countertops, but you can use it on laminate and tile. Stay away from using it on quartz because it can scratch and damage the counter, and glass is prone to scratches. Since baking soda is a mild abrasive, you can only use it on certain surfaces.

Yes, limestone often turns yellow over time when improperly cared for. The stone contains natural iron deposits, which can oxidize when exposed to water, acids, or harsh chemicals, such as bleach. Without exposure to water or chemicals, limestone should not turn yellow. Always seal limestone countertops to protect them from moisture, and only use gentle cleansers designed for stone.

Standing water can lead to surface discoloration if your granite countertops are improperly sealed. However, it’s possible to remove hard water stains with a baking soda paste. Take more care with acidic liquids, such as fruit juice or red wine, which can leave more permanent stains. That’s why it’s so important to reseal these surfaces regularly.
