"The son Lu Vaquez did not do a template nor give a contract. When I canceled AN INSTA due to hospitalization he went crazy and blew up my phone. When I showed him the job I took him and showed him another countertop I needed an inch trimmed off each side- he said he would handle it that it wasn't a big deal. The night before he quoted me in writing it would be $750.00 which is a big deal! I delayed the instal land since I had put 1/2 down asked for the countertop so I could install it. He proceeded t oblow up my phne with messages calling me names and threatening court. I finally got my attorney involved and when he brought the product one of the edges wasn't rounded and was sharp and the top piece didn't match when seamed together. I still paid him to get rid of him. While there he commited to trimming the other piece I showed him for $200.00. However when he arrived he blustered me for $250.00 and not the $200.00 he told me in front of witnesses. Instead of removing the count top and doing it outside which is normal and customary he did it inside and in place. After cutting one side of the counter top, running the saw into the drywall and damaging the cabinet he stormed out with granite dust all over the place. I am now faced with taking him to court for damages and filing a no tress pass as there is something wrong with him. The son is nothing like his father."

Marble and Granite questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional services ensure precision and long-lasting results.

Dust mops are the best option for tackling dirt and dust on marble floors. Vacuums aren’t a good idea as the brushes and beater rolls can scratch and damage your marble floors. If you must use a vacuum, make sure your vacuum has a setting for hard floors, and take care not to apply too much pressure when rolling the vacuum across your marble floor.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

Granite floor installation takes two to five days for an average-sized room, depending on the area size, complexity, and whether additional preparation work is required. Larger or more intricate projects may take longer, especially if demolition or subfloor repairs are needed. Scheduling and contractor availability can also affect the timeline, so be sure to prepare in advance.

Quartz is more durable than granite, so it should last longer. However, it does have one weakness: It can be damaged by extreme heat, so exercise caution with cooking pans. Granite is durable, but it’s also porous, which invites stains when liquids are left sitting on a countertop. With this in mind, clean up spills promptly and reseal the countertops every year. Beyond that, granite can be damaged by a high-impact blow.
