"Gabriel called and came over to give us an estimate on the same day. He completed the job in 1 day all by himself. Cut down a broken tree with top of tree hanging in the other tree canopy. He removed all branches down to the stump. He came back with stump grinder to finish off the job. When he left, there were no traces of a tree standing in that location. Gabriel was carefull, hard working, and accommodating. We would definitely hire him again for any of our outdoor needs."

"I was very pleased with their service. Very timely, they cleaned up when the work was done, they did three jobs for me 1) 70-foot tree, they got that done in half a day. 2) Business job, cleaned up around 11 trees here... 3) Referenced to my neighbour, they removed 60+ feet trees. A general rule is that trees need 10 gallons of water for each inch of the tree’s diameter. For large trees, that can amount to approximately 160 gallons of water or more. Watering big trees to this extent can take quite a bit of time using a hose. For this reason, you may consider installing a soaker hose or sprinkler system to make the job easier.  

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.

A standard tree removal doesn’t include stump grinding. If you want your contractor to remove your tree and grind the stump, you must pay an extra charge. That said, you’ll likely save on the cost of stand-alone service—especially if it’s a small tree and they can finish both jobs in a single trip.

Unless there’s some sort of rule in your community’s homeowners’ association that requires you to remove a stump, there’s no law that says you have to take it out. If you’re not wedded to the idea of removing it, there are plenty of ways to get creative with this tree remnant. Using the stump as the medium for a wood carving or turning it into a planter are just two examples of ways to repurpose a tree stump.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. If you’re unsure which method to use or how quickly you need to act, consulting with a pro is always a good idea.
