No, mulch itself does not necessarily attract termites even though it’s usually made of shredded wood. Some types of mulch like cedar or cypress resist termites because they’re toxic or unappetizing to the wood munchers. Some homeowners, however, use wood from these trees for mulching if it is less potent due to age or concentration, or if the plants are not as sensitive to them.

Gravel is a versatile option for home projects. It is low-maintenance and cost-effective compared to other materials. In addition, gravel provides excellent drainage, reducing the risk of flooding in your yard or driveway. Pairing gravel with a weed barrier fabric during installation can mitigate the risk of weed growth.

As a base, you should use a fertilizer with a 5-5-5 NPK ratio (5% nitrogen, 5% phosphorus, and 5% potassium). You may need a different ratio depending on what your soil is lacking, but a soil test can help determine the perfect amount.
