"Aaron helped me install a dishwasher from scratch. He was very accommodating and did the job on short notice at a good price. Quality of the workmanship was very good and I would strongly recommend his company to anyone looking for handyman services in the Shawano/Keshena area. I was very pleased with every aspect of this job."

"Worked very hard. Made sure everything I wanted done was complete. They did much more than just remove a stump. Took down several small trees. removed some old logs and brush as well as grinding down several stumps. Hardest working crew I have ever scene. Phil magically loaded everything into their trailer and removed everything from my yard. HIGHLY recommend."

"The G&M team did an excellent job. They were available when we needed them consistent with our schedule. Their pricing was reasonable. They were timely when they did the job. And most importantly they were very enthusiastic about doing the job in a way that was satisfactory to us. And very appreciative of us hiring them. We would unquestionably use them again."

"The crew worked hard. They safely removed 5 very large trees from our wooded lot. They split one of the trees to use for firewood and loaded it into our truck and garage wood box. They did everything we asked, cleaned up nicely. They are friendly and very professional. The fee was reasonable and fair. We will use them again when we need them."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It’s not always easy to tell when a tree is dying, although signs like dropping branches and brittle bark can sometimes offer clues. It can also be difficult to know whether a tree is dead or dormant, especially if it’s a deciduous tree. You’ll want to wait until a growth season to get a good idea of a tree’s health. When in doubt, contact an arborist for a consultation.

Bleach can potentially kill some types of delicate ornamental trees, but for the most part, it will only kill the foliage it comes in contact with. Applying bleach is not an effective method of killing a tree. A better option is to use an herbicide, which is a chemical compound designed to effectively kill a tree.

Generally, you should prune around 20% of an apple tree’s growth—and never more than 30%. This means that if you have a severely overgrown tree, it can take a few seasons to prune it back enough to produce the healthiest fruit.

If you’re dealing with a newly planted or juvenile tree, hold off on pruning beyond the initial shaping. Wait at least a couple of seasons into fruit production since pruning can increase the number of water sprouts and unproductive foliage.

Hiring an arborist or tree surgeon is usually more expensive than a standard tree company, but it is often worth the investment. Arborists have education and certifications that standard companies typically lack, leading to a more professional, expert-level service. Their expertise is particularly valuable for diseased or infested trees, as they can ensure safer removal and help prevent the issue from spreading. Additionally, arborists may be necessary for work near power lines, as uncertified companies are often not permitted to service these trees. If your goal is to preserve the health of your trees, an arborist is the best choice. Their services, such as stump grinding, are also performed with greater expertise to ensure a safe depth that won't cause your lawn to collapse over time.

Licensing requirements for arborists, also known as tree surgeons, vary by state and municipality. Many areas require a license, which often involves specialized education and experience. Even if not mandated, it's wise to hire a licensed professional as they tend to have more experience. Beyond licensing, look for certifications from organizations like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), as this indicates a higher level of expertise. Certified arborists must typically pass a comprehensive exam. Always confirm that the arborist has a business license and is fully insured to protect yourself from liability. Seeking positive recommendations from local homeowners is also a good step in finding a qualified professional.
