"Driftless Exteriors is a true one-stop shop! They pressure washed our home, cleaned the exterior windows, stained our deck, and even painted our kitchen. Everything turned out amazing!! It?s been a long time since we?ve experienced service this good. This small business genuinely puts its customers first. From communication and scheduling to the quality of the work, they kept us updated and informed every step of the way. 5/5 stars! "We chose not to go with Field of Dream Siding and Construction for our roofing job because when he showed up to take measurements, he didn't even get on the roof to look around. He didn't even go in the back of the house where he would have seen that there was a skylight he'd have to work around. All the other contractors who came to take measurements in order to make a bid, got on the roof and looked around. His bid was in the mid-range, so it wasn't bad, but I'm not sure what it was based on."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

For the best results, stay off of your deck for at least 48 hours after sealing it. Giving the sealant at least two full days to cure ensures it can fully penetrate the wood, giving you the most protection from sun and weather damage later on. Walking on the deck too soon can prevent it from properly curing and cause your deck to weather prematurely.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Cold temperatures can make your deck boards contract. If they don’t contract evenly, they can put pressure on the deck screws and cause them to pop out, making a noticeable sound. Winterizing your deck can help prevent this from happening.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

Putting lattice under a deck will create a polished look that allows for air ventilation. You can also store items underneath as the lattice provides privacy and protection from the weather. You can also put lattice under a porch to create a polished look in the front of your house.
