You can learn how to install a shower pan liner, but it has a standard look similar to most other showers, though there is some flexibility for material and color choices. Tile, on the other hand, can be customized and is set directly into the shower base. However, a shower tile floor is more difficult to install than a shower pan.
Doorless showers feature strategically placed showerheads, drains, and sloped floors to contain water. The sloped floor allows water to seamlessly flow toward the drain and prevents pooling. Proper design and waterproofing ensure that water is directed into the drain, minimizing the risk of it spreading out into the rest of the bathroom.
You can adjust the mixing valve on your shower if it uses a single handle to control both hot and cold water by removing the handle and adjusting the cap on the mixing valve. The cap fits over the valve handle and creates a low and high point for your handle to spin. Remove the cap and turn it to adjust how it mixes hot and cold water, and then replace the cap and reinstall the handle.
You can use sanded or unsanded grout for a shower pan, but sanded grout isn’t the best option for shower walls. For those areas, you’ll want to use unsanded grout, which works well on vertical surfaces and is less likely to slump than sanded grout. Alternatively, you can use epoxy grout for shower walls.
Use mortar underneath the shower base. The mortar holds the shower pan in place and creates a level surface when spread properly. If your flooring is not level, you would need to use shims to create a level surface before moving forward with the mortar and base installation.
Note that installing a shower pan on an uneven surface can eventually lead to cracks and leaks.
