"I cannot say enough great things about Jamie and the team at Wisconsin Generators LLC. From the very first conversation, Jamie was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly responsive. He took the time to walk me through all my options, answered every question thoroughly, and made sure I felt confident in the decision we were making. The installation process was seamless. The crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, and treated our property with respect. Their attention to detail and commitment to doing the job right was obvious from start to finish. Everything was clean, organized, and completed exactly as promised. What really sets Jamie apart is his integrity and customer-first approach. There was no pressure just honest recommendations and clear communication. If you’re considering a standby generator, I highly recommend Jamie and Wisconsin Generators LLC. Reliable service, expert installation, and true peace of mind. Five stars all The way!!"

Small jobs welcome

"You can stop searching for an electrician - hire Brey Electric. You couldn?t ask for a more professional contractor. He installed a GFCI outlet in the bathroom and had to go through a very tight attic space. He recommended the attic route because it would be less expensive than running a wire up from the basement. He explained clearly what the job would entail, finished the job ahead of schedule, vacuumed the floor when the job was completed, and went a step further to offer to provide a custom extension cord if the toilet seat cord isn?t long enough. Conner takes customer service seriously and works with the electrical contractors association to stay current with industry practices. He?s relaxed and very easy to work with. I won?t hesitate to refer Brey Electric to my friends and call on Connor for future jobs."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

If you’re wondering if you can use your electric vehicle as a backup battery, it depends on whether your EV is compatible with bidirectional charging. This technology allows energy to flow both ways, enabling vehicle-to-home (V2H) backup power, vehicle-to-load (V2L) for appliances and camping, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) to support the power grid. Compatible EVs convert stored DC energy into usable AC power, helping reduce energy costs and enhance grid stability while providing emergency backup power.

Many services include assembling the unit and securing it in the window. Confirm with your provider.

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.
