"I called at 10am, the owner of the company arrived shortly after 11 and was done by noon! I could not be happier. He explained the typical cause of kitchen blockages (dying garbage disposals), and scheduled me for a replacement 4 days later. When I suggested going with a more expensive/ powerful model, he declined the opportunity to upsell. He also took time to clean up the dirty water splashes under the sink, even when I told him not to bother. Also, my dogs liked him."

"John was wonderful to work with. He came out on a Friday night to discuss the deck project. He listened to what my husband and I wanted and he didn't try talking us into anything. He even provided a detailed written estimate within a week after meeting with us. He took time to speak to the village regarding  permitting, he ordered a dumpster and let us know when they would deliver it, he ordered all of the material etc. He answered every and all questions we had. He explained the entire building process from start to finish in terms we would understand. John kept us updated on each stage of construction. Starting with the permitting, to the ordering of material, to the framing,  the delivery and installing of the decking material, to all the village inspections etc. John was great and the project went very smoothly, although there were some days the weather did not cooperate.

John is a perfectionist. He worked on the deck from early morning to late afternoon, even in the oppressive heat. He was very considerate of our property. He was very neat and orderly.  He called us several times during  construction to provide us with an update on the project and he always encouraged us to call with any questions. We had an electrical outlet that wasn't working and he went ahead and replaced that for me at no charge. Material that was ordered but was not needed was returned and we were credited for that. We can't say enough about his character, his work ethic and his craft. He built not only a beautiful deck but a vey functional, sturdy deck.. Several neighbors have complimented us on the new deck. Even the village inspector complimented John on the great job he did.

If you want to hire a contractor that is knowlegable, honest, hardworking, dependable, does fantastic work we would highly recommend John. He will keep you informed during the project, and make sure that you are absolutely happy with everything. He even calls you a week or so after the job is complete to make sure  there isn't any problems. He stands behind his work and does whatever he has to to make sure that the work is done well and you are satisfied.

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

The two main negatives of garbage disposals are they are a safety hazard in homes with children, and they frequently encounter blockage issues. While they might be annoying to fix and monitor, garbage disposals can significantly lower your trash use and are a great way to dispose of organic waste. While there are negatives, the vast majority of homeowners acknowledge the positives are enough to install a disposal in their home.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. The two appliances pair well and are often installed together because a disposal simplifies meal cleanup.

However, your dishwasher should not be used as a replacement for a garbage disposal. Subjecting it to continuous food leftovers can lead to major clogs. If you choose not to install a garbage disposal, you should thoroughly rinse your plates or scrape excess food into the trash or a compost pile before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent plumbing issues.
