"We turned on our AC for the first time in late June only to have our home infested with flies. I called several companies, Archer was the only company willing to provide me with same day service! They saved our lives! Our air vent system had to be cleaned and sanitized due to the previous occupants throwing feces (cats/dogs) into the vents; sitting there for at least 6 months to a year! The service men had never seen anything like this before and this included cleaning VERY old homes! NO ONE had ever seen this before!! They worked on our home for two long days to ensure the VERY best quality. It was worth every $$$ - We had a family/friend gathering several days later and we sang their praises up and down! Due to their excellent service, we were able to continue with our plans to have everyone over to see our new home with all the upgrades we had worked so hard on! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!"

Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The frequency of cleaning your dryer depends on how often you use it. For regular households, it is recommended to clean the lint trap after each load of laundry. Additionally, thorough cleaning of the dryer—lint trap, drum, and exterior—should be done every few months. It's important to pay attention to the vent system as well. Ideally, it should be cleaned at least once a year, or six months if your dryer takes care of huge loads often, or more frequently if you notice reduced drying efficiency.

If your dryer is wet inside, it could be due to a poorly designed ventilation system. This happens more frequently during the hotter months as heat is trapped inside the vent duct. Broken or failing seams and seals on the vent pipe can also allow warm air to enter. If changing the ventilation is not an option, consider insulating your vent pipes to reduce moisture capturing.

You can clean a dryer vent yourself by unplugging the dryer from your wall outlet, removing your vent pipe from your dryer, removing debris from the pipe and dryer area, and looking at the exterior vent exit for any debris or blockages.

If you're unfamiliar with how vents work, call in a pro for an annual vent cleaning and inspection and for help with how to clean a dryer vent.

Dryer vents commonly need to be replaced every one to three years. This will depend on the rate at which you dry loads, how often you clean your vent, and what type of vent you have. For instance, regular care will prolong the life span of most options, while aluminum foil vents may need to be replaced more frequently with or without regular maintenance.

Dryers pull in air from a circular opening in the back of the dryer. The dryer's heating element heats the air, and a blower fan circulates the hot air through the drum. The hot air travels outside the dryer through a vent or is cooled by a heat exchanger that condenses the steam into water and sends it down a drainpipe or to a containment compartment.
