"Reviews were only mediocre about Colonial, but thought I'd give them a try. Wish I hadn't... They came out and sprayed for weed control, 6700 sq. ft. of lawn and did it all in less than 10 minutes, including dragging hose out and putting away. 2 weeks later only about 20% of weeds were wilting. Had to have them come back out for a 2nd application, of which they charged me for, shouldn't have and didn't refund my payment. They also sprayed for Crabgrass control on a separate occasion and again 2 weeks later, only about 20% of Crabgrass was wilting. Had to have them come back out and spray again. They weren't supposed to spray the Bent grass in the lawn and did it anyway, now dead spots all over my back lawn. Could not be more disappointed in my experience."

We have never had frozen pipes in our system with them doing the pre-winter maintenance. If there is every a problem and we need a service call there is always someone in the office to take a call. We have never had to leave a call back number and wait. We have had the same service tech for the last twelve years. Always on time, very professional. and knows what he is doing. Technically, yes—and you may have some successful growth—but this isn’t the ideal way to fill in sparse areas. By clearing leaves and debris, amending the soil, and aerating it properly before you lay the seeds, you’re providing the most ideal conditions for them to germinate.

If the grass is dead, you cannot bring it back to life. However, you can grow new grass in its place or try the methods mentioned above to revive the grass if it isn’t entirely dead. You can expect St. Augustine grass to come back after moderate droughts, but it will suffer significant nutrient loss after an extended period of drought.

If you apply too much fertilizer to your grass, it can take about three weeks to recover. If you still have dead patches after three weeks, it might be time to remove the dead grass and overseed the affected area. Since overfertilizing can also cause problems with fungus, leading to further damage to the grass, monitor your grass color and growth for one month after over fertilizing.

If your grass is stressed from being over-trimmed, try watering it heavily and then allowing it to recover for at least two weeks before mowing again. If you notice brown patches where the grass has died off because it’s too short, you should remove the dead grass and overseed the area. Leaving dead patches can invite weeds and other problems, so if you want a totally green lawn, getting rid of dead patches should include removing the dead sections before reseeding the area.

Your lawn will have visible signs if it needs fertilizing. If your grass looks discolored, is slow growing, looks thin, or your yard has bare spots, then it probably needs to be fertilized to give it the nutrients it's lacking. You should also keep an eye out for weeds and pests because they can also be signs of a struggling lawn.
