I emailed Tree Cycle requesting a bid and Peter responded within a day. He stopped by the next day and gave a bid on the spot. He also said he would research the state of some sick Hawthorne trees. The work was scheduled within 10 days. The work was very well done. Everything was done as requested, and Peter's crew was both careful and thorough. Peter had researched the Hawthorne trees and gave me useful information that helped me make a decision about what to do about them. The invoice was sent out immediately by email, and exactly mirrored the bid (including some elements of the bid that were verbal). Overall, a great experience.

We had a huge pin oak tree in our front yard that damaged our shared sewer line, blew out a city electrical transformer and was pulling up the sidewalk. We did not want to remove the tree however because of it's great beauty. Peter at Tree Cycle helped us find the best of a sad situation. He said he would use the wood to build furniture and smaller branches would become mulch for Seattle's parks. We cried when it came down, but Peter and his crew did a great job. They were not the least expensive bid we received, but we were confident they had the experience and sensitivity to do the job right.

Peter did not get back to me right away and as I recall there was also a time lag in the second round of contacts. However, after that slow start, everything went fine. Peter came and looked around the yard, seemed to know what he was doing and had useful suggestions. I did not get various estimates, so I cannot comment usefully on the price, and thus I put N/A on the "price" rating. The work was done as expected. Peter and the crew foreman were friendly and experienced. Some plants and structures in the yard got a bit damaged, but my impression is that the impact on the rest of the yard from the work done was about as minimal as possible, considering the scope of the work. They cleaned up well. I was left with a very positive feeling about working with Peter and Treecycle.
Description of Work: I needed 4 20 foot tall Photinia shrubs removed and the stumps ground; a 20' tree taken down and the stump ground, a small tree's stump ground, and an area of about 20' x 10' cleared of shrubs like forsythia. I also needed a dead cherry tree cut back for safety but main and side branches left for habitat. We had previously done a lot of pruning on other parts of the yard and cut down a small tree as well. We needed all of our prunings chipped, as well as all of the Treecycle pruning chipped. They left the very large pile of chips (about 7 yards) in the best possible place for our wheelbarrowing it back into the yard. There were also a couple of large trash cans worth of of ivy and blackberry prunings to take away.

The estimator was in the neighborhood the day after the original email exchange and stopped by. I was there and able to get a clear idea of what they could accomplish and by when. The work was done by the end of the week. Clean up was good. A second contractor we had used before, not from Angie's List, didn't even get back to us before the work was done and his estimate was almost twice that of Tree Cycle.

Peter Gruenwoldt answered my inquiry quickly. He had been out of town, so I had already gotten other estimates and had come close to selecting another company. He came out that day to do give me an estimate, which was $1500 less than my previous lowest bid! Because of a delay in their work commitments, they were able to complete my job the next day. He is a certfied arborist and quite knowledgeable, as well as personable, giving us advice on what to replant to avoid similar problems in the future. His crew was punctual, professional and efficient, completing the project in less than a day, including grinding stumps and hauling everything away. You wouldn't know that trees had been removed unless you were familiar with the yard. I will definitely recommend Tree Cycle to friends and will use them again without hesitation.

I have had others help me in the tree pruning/removal category. No one has matched the overall service of Peter and crew. The tree I wanted removed was a half height, split western hemlock that had gone down in the storm of 2006 on my neighbors garage. The power company could only manage to top the tree and send it back upright -but it was not something I wanted to keep in the front courtyard. I used Angie's List to search for companies and when I called Tree Cycle, I got Tree Cycle. Peter said he was in my neighborhood in a few days, would have a look and get back to me. The tree was taken down in approximately 20 minutes and stump ground in another 25. They left me a garbage can of chips at my request and for another $20 ground another stump that was left against a fence. I will be using Tree Cycle for other tree related services.

Peter met with us on a Friday to give us an estimate. We had numerous questions and he had a lot of great suggestions and information for us that helped us decide what exactly we wanted done. He was very professional and personable. Peter and his crew came out the following Wednesday to do the work. They started at 9am and finished up about 3:30pm. They would ask us questions occasionally like how high did we want a tree pruned up or which extra branches we wanted them to take, but mostly went about their business with confidence and care.
Description of Work: They took down two large trees, a hedge, overgrown juniper ground cover, other assorted trees and shrubs, and removed ivy that was growing almost all the way up a large fir and spreading along the ground and into the hedge. They pruned back a large cherry that was reaching across the deck, took some branches from Douglas Firs that were hanging over the roof and pruned up a number of big evergreens. They ground up all the stumps, chipped everything but the large trees (which they took with them) and left us all the chips to use in our landscaping.

It was very good. I called and didn't get an answer right away but an email got right to them and they immediately got back to me. He came out and looked at it, and gave me an estimate, and just a few days later he called me and said that he was finishing a job early and he come out and take care of the job at my house. It was very quick. He is a very nice guy.

Peter did the trimming himself and his crew worked like a finely oiled machine. Peter sawed two sections of truck lengthwise so I can make four benches from them. Awesome job. Much cheaper than the other bids I received. Stump grinding was the most thorough I have seen. I could plant another tree where the stumps were removed. Awesome job. This work has transformed our yard and home. The trees are more aesthetically pleasing now and there's much more light in our home. Peter is a great guy, very knowledgeable and courteous.
Description of Work: We had 6 evergreens in our front yard, crowding each other and keeping the light from shining in our yard and house. Peter and the team took out three of the smaller evergreens, and thinned and pruned the three remaining larger evergreens. They also ground down the stumps so you can't even tell that there used to be trees there. Also, they pruned a large cherry in the back yard. My wife and I can now can spend time in the front yard, and catch those precious rays of Seattle sun.

I can't say enough good things about Tree Cycle. Peter (owner) and his crew came in and did the work quickly, cleanly and at a very competitive price. Peter was on-site and personally took down our Dogwood tree. It was truly amazing watching him work. The man is at ease in the trees. In fact, several neighbors came by afterwards in awe of his performance. I work in real estate, and I will highly recommend him to any client that needs his services. Thanks Peter!

We would highly recommend Peter and his crew. He was responsive to our initial inquiry, came to the house at a convenient time and sent us a bid via email later that evening. We had him turn a 70' cedar into a wildlife snag and do pruning and cleaning on several other large trees. He and his crew arrived at the time they stated, worked incredibly hard and completed the job in a day and a half. Peter is knowledgeable about tree health and also took care not to damage the understory plants as they were taking down the cedar (which is pretty darn hard to do given the site). They cleaned up the site really well each day, leaving it in better shape than when they arrived. Besides all of this, if you are home when they do the work, you get the added benefit of seeing Peter work in the tree; pretty impressive! We plan to have him back at a later date to do some work on a Doug Fir and some other trees.

After playing a bit of phone tag, I did leave Peter my address and he said he would drive by the house so he could provide an estimate. He called me back while at my house and based on the budget I had, was able to describe over the phone what the plan was so well that I didn't have to leave work and said he had time to start and again, didn't have to leave work to rush home to meet him. Peter said to give him a call when I got home and he would come back up to the house to confirm I was happy with the job done and I could pay him at that time (huge convenience factor right there). I would definitely call Peter again.

I contacted the company by email, and the owner inspected the site within a couple of days, and sent an estimate (very reasonable price). When I emailed to schedule the work, a crew appeared the next morning. They worked quickly and expertly to remove the stumps, and cleaned the area beautifully when they were done. They had to move a few of my existing plants in order to get the stumps out, and replaced them precisely as before. I would work with these guys again in a heartbeat.

Fantastic. These guys really know what they are doing. Peter was responsive, direct, and knowledgeable - a real 'no-nonsense' kind of guy. He caught some problems we hadn't noticed, and allayed our fears on other, merely perceived, issues. Appointment was for 8:30am, they arrived at 8:20am and had the 2 small trees down and 1 tree pruned before my husband left for work at 9:10am. It was a three man crew and they worked like crazy. At one point all three of them were in one large cherry tree on the property working to get it pruned up. It was really fun to watch them work (from the safety of my kitchen!). They seemed to really work well together and appeared to really love what they were doing. I went out and chatted with them a couple times, just to check in, and they were polite and explained everything that was going on. They ground down all the stumps (even some roots that were in our way) so well that you can't even tell anything was there except for the small mound of chips. They chipped some branches and left the chips for us, and took the larger chunks away that we couldn't use. They left the yard cleaner when they left than it had been when they arrived. They were done by 3:00pm. We will DEFINITELY have them back next year for more work and continued maintenance.
Description of Work: Removed 7 trees: 1 small ornamental cherry, 2 mid-size (20') hollies, 4 large-size (40'+) conifers. Also limbed up or heavily pruned 7 additional trees (each 35'-40'+) and a 20' long holly shrub fence. Ground all stumps and left the yard cleaner than it was when they had arrived. We just bought our 1952 home in December, so we were addressing issues that had been ignored for many years by the previous owner.

Peter and his crew did a wonderful job. He responded promptly with the initial estimate request, explained to me the various options (trim vs. cutting down and grinding the stump) and costs. He scheduled the work within a week and his crew showed up on time, did a great job cutting the tree and clean-up afterwards. Very professional and his crew treats his customers with respect. Reasonably priced. I compared pricing with a few other quotes as well.

My call to Peter was timely, in that he had just gone on a two week vacation, but I was willing to wait (given all the praise given in other reviews). He called back once he had come back from vacation and came out to estimate what could and should be done. The home I recently bought hadn't had it's trees trimmed or touched since the previous owners had bought about 7-8 years ago, and the backyard in particular was a shadowy forest of trees. He left his estimate and gave me more ideas of what I might want done (including tree removal - a subject I was hesitant to broach given my friends' appalled reactions) and I later called him to see if he had time to do the work. We made an appointment for about a week later and he came out to complete the work. However, my only quibble is that he said he'd come out the day before to put up no parking signs in front of my house (I live on a quasi-busy street and there's usually _someone_ parked in front of my house). Neglecting to put the sign up caused him to have to come back a week later to complete the job, and then, luckily, I had the foresight to park on the street rather than my driveway for a week, just to make sure no strange cars were parked there. But in the end, the services rendered were perfect and my significant other and I are happy with the work done. As he left, he offered to come back to trim more off the front tree if necessary/desired since I was not present. Note, I was not present when the work was being done, but my significant other says that they worked quickly and efficiently and were done (the first time and the second time) before he really noticed.

Peter called after receiving my e-mail. He dropped off an estimate on the date he said he would and the estimate I found to be very reasonable. Cherry trees, especially one that is 40 plus years old are known for there hardness. This was not an easy tree to grind down. He showed up on the date he said he would to grind away the stump. I was not there but when I came home the stump was gone and only a pile of dirt and tree debris were left. If this is any indication of his work I'd highly recommend him for any of his tree services.

We bought our house last year and got a beautiful old apple tree along with it. The tree has some sort of blight that affects its leaves and fruit, so we wanted to thin the tree out to help increase air and light as we work to improve its health. I found Tree Cycle through Angie's List and got a quick response from Peter by email, which I appreciated since that's how I initiated contact. Peter was prompt in setting up an appointment to provide an estimate for the pruning ($185). He was also quick to set up an appointment for the work and his crew showed up right on time. He listened carefully to my concerns about what we wanted done with the tree and made appropriate recommendations, and he and the crew did a great job with the tree and the clean-up. We also had them grind out an old stump and they did a great job getting the large machine up our few stairs and through our gate. The $200 cost for the grinding seemed a bit high at first, but I know those machines are costly (and heavy) and balanced out with the very reasonable cost for pruning the other tree, I think it was fair overall. I will definitely use Tree Cycle again.

At bid, I voiced my concerns to Peter about wanting the trees thinned but also not wanting to thin some of the trees in certain areas too much to the point that my backyard privacy was lost, i.e. being able to see neighbor s houses through the trees after thinning. Peter and his crew were completely receptive to my concerns. Furthermore, I am delighted with the outcome. Peter and his crew were entirely professional and definitely knew their stuff. They told me they would arrive on a Monday morning between 8:30-9:00AM and arrived precisely at 8:30AM. Observing some of their acrobatics, particularly Peter s, was a kick as well. If I had to come up with a single negative, it was that Tree Cycle does not take VISA, so I feel like I have lost out on some frequent flyer miles. Currently, I m hoping to have Tree Cycle come back and plant some new trees in my backyard.
Description of Work: I hired Tree Cycle to thin a number of trees in my backyard, including some cedars, several tall pine and a Douglas fir. Three of these trees are in the 80 to 100 range. This included removal of all debris and cleanup.
