"I found Alex exceptionally careful and thorough. His pricing was fair. His work ethic was great. He cleaned our deck with a pressure washer. Because of his great job, we hired him to stain our deck. Great choice!"

Small jobs welcome

"Chris was great to work with. Very attentive, detailed, and most importantly very clean. Likes to keep his area and tools clean and organized and this translates into the quality of his work. Paint is the last resort to fix small imperfections in the trim and/or walls and Chris definitely took his time to make sure the job came out good. Would 100% use his services again."

"Bautista landscaping did a great job in my perennial garden. Most landscapers I have tried have been Mow, Blow and Go guys. I have very little lawn but lots of perennial plants, Japanese maples, rhodies, and a Zen garden with a big crushed gravel “lake”. Because of irrigation tubing everything needs to be weeded by hand. By the time the crew left the garden had never looked better, and they charged a very fair price."

"He found further issues with another window sill and asked if I wanted to go forward with that work as well.  When he approached me regarding this he also had factored what the cost would be.  He was able to take care of the issue that day instead of needing to come back another day, which I appreciated.  He did excellent work, caulked around the edges, painted it with a protective paint, cleaned up and spoke with me to ask if there was anything more.  He showed me what he had done, I inspected the work and he left with a cheery goodbye.  The fellow was very polite, very considerate and was a pleasure to work with.

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.

To flatten a cupped deck board, start by ensuring it’s dry. Then, try flipping the board over so the cupped side faces down and reattach it. If that’s not possible, you can use screws to pull it tighter to the joists or plane the edges slightly to reduce the cup. It’s best to replace severely cupped boards.

Materials for a second-story deck must be weather- and rot-resistant, though the specific choices will largely be determined by your budget and style preference. Pressure-treated wood is on the lower end of the price scale, but it can be customized and stained the way you like it. Composite, on the other hand, is pricier for installation and has fewer options for customization, but you’ll save money and time in the long run because it requires little maintenance.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

Building a deck without a permit could lead to fines for both the homeowner and the contractor. The exact penalties will depend on your state and municipal building laws. You might also be required to remove the deck and apply for a permit before you can build another. While it might be tempting to skip the permit to save a few bucks, it’ll cost you much more if you’re caught.
