"They did a great job and were very quick and efficient. They even negotiated a lower price because we didn't need our gutters cleaned, since they were going to be replaced the next week. I will definitely use their service again when I need the exterior of my house washed or windows or roof or driveway cleaned."

"WOW!!! I can't say enough good things about these guys. From start to finish they are the best. I started out my journey a bit skeptical do to all the things I've seen my friends try that never worked. I looked at several different gutter protection products before MasterShield. MasterShield was my last bid. Jim came out and showed me the system. Jim is highly knowledgeable and very professional. I ultimately chose MasterShield because rather than sitting on top of the gutter, if follows the same pitch as my roof. Because it follows the roof pitch, any debris would be more apt to roll off rather than get trapped on top of the gutter. When the work started the guys were great. The quality of work is amazing. While they were up there they even added some additional flashings to my roof that were missing at no charge. The system has now been up for about a month. I have a really steep roof plus I have a couple big valleys that dump tons of water right on the filter. I was a little concerned the system wouldn't be able to take all the water in a heavy downpour. Well, even with all the melting snow and the tons of rain, the system worked perfect. I couldn't be happier. Finally, no more cleaning out my gutters."

"Matt from Sound Cleaning was the only responder to the 3 businesses I contacted and he did everything in a very timely way.  My driveway was full of moss and I actually thought my driveway needed replacing, but after the amazing cleaning job, it looks like new!  They more than exceeded my expectations.  I have had other people attempt this and was very disappointed.  Definitely recommend this company!"

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The trick to getting gleaming gutters can vary based on the material of your gutters. Aluminum gutters can often be restored to pristine condition by using a cloth to scrub them with a solution consisting of 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. Vinyl gutters can be whitened using dish soap and water. For deeply stained vinyl gutters, adding bleach with water and dish soap may help to remove black streaks. Many retailers sell premixed gutter sprays. Applying cleaning solutions to dry gutters before rinsing can help cleaners attach to dirt and grime for easier removal.

Yes, gutters can still get clogged even with gutter guards installed. While guards significantly reduce the amount of debris that enters your gutters, they are not 100% effective.

Small debris such as pine needles, seedlings, algae, small leaves, and pebbles can pass through the guard's screen or mesh and accumulate over time. Clogs can also form if the guards themselves are not cleaned and become overwhelmed with debris on top, preventing water from entering the gutter.

If this buildup is neglected, it can lead to clogs, water leaks, mold growth, and even plants sprouting from the gutters. The primary benefit of gutter guards is not the complete elimination of maintenance, but a dramatic reduction in how often you need to perform it, often from several times a year to just once a year or less.

The best times of year to clean your gutters are typically in the spring and fall. Cleaning in the fall is crucial for removing leaves and debris that have accumulated, which helps prevent clogs. A spring cleaning ensures your gutters are clear and prepared for seasonal rainfall.

As a general guideline, experts recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice a year. However, the optimal frequency depends on several factors, such as local weather patterns, the type of gutters you have, and the number of trees on your property. If your home is surrounded by many large trees or pine trees, you may need to clean your gutters as often as every three to four months. If you have few or no trees nearby, twice a year is likely sufficient. In some cases, you may need to clean them a couple of times during the fall and spring to keep them clear and allow water to flow freely.

While both underground and above-ground downspout extensions are a step up from no downspout extensions, underground downspouts are better for those looking for a more discreet option. Underground downspouts are hidden away—out of sight, out of mind. You won't be bumping into the extended sections with your lawn mower, nor will you see the downspouts sticking out like a sore thumb.

Gutters overflow in heavy rain for several reasons. The main reasons why your gutters could be overflowing in heavy rain include:

  • Not enough downspouts to effectively remove water from your gutters

  • Too small of a gutter width—the average gutter size is four to six inches

  • Clogged gutters

  • Incorrect slope

If you believe your gutters were installed incorrectly, it’s a good idea to know who to call for gutter leaks. Speak with a local gutter specialist to get to the bottom of your gutter system to stop water from flooding your property or yard ASAP.
