And he did exactly what I needed with detail being very specific. Chalk paint can be applied without sanding first. Keep in mind that while there are a lot of chalk paint color options available, there aren’t as many choices as latex or oil-based paint.

You can also learn how to paint furniture without sanding using a liquid deglosser, sometimes referred to as liquid sandpaper. This can remove any old paint, gloss, or varnish, without the need to manually sand. Apply the deglosser using a cloth, then wait for the chemical to penetrate through the surface. You can wallpaper and paint over certain types of wallpaper, but it’s usually a better idea to remove it first. Removing the wallpaper and prepping the wall before painting is a good way to guarantee a smooth finish that looks professional. If you ever have a moisture or water issue after painting over wallpaper, the paper will bubble and damage your wall. Additionally, you should never paint over wallpaper already peeling or otherwise damaged, as this will leave obvious imperfections in your wall and could lead to additional problems.

Some caulk shrinks during the drying process, leading to cracked paint and a less-than-ideal appearance. Not all caulk cracks when painting, but it’s important that you read the label on your caulk container before painting to ensure that it’s actually paintable. There are four main types of caulk, and acrylic latex caulk is one of the most reliable caulking materials for painting over without fear of cracked paint. Avoid painting over silicone caulking.

You can sometimes add water to your spray gun, depending on the design of your sprayer and the type of paint, paint finish, or sealant. In many cases, mixing in around 10% percent of water to the paint makes for an easier application process and further evens out the mist.
