"We hired Josh to cut down and remove two very large dying trees on our property. The trees were located very close to power line so we wanted to make sure we hired the right company to remove the trees safely. Josh was able to take down the trees safely and removed all of the debris. He showed up on time, as scheduled and worked tirelessly to finish the project on schedule. He left the property looking much better than we expected. We were so happy with the tree removal that we hired him to return to help us with our apple orchid. The apple orchid is an old orchard and has not been trimmed in probably 20 or more years. Josh was able to open up the trees. We’re we’re able to harvest apples for the first time since we owned the property. As an added bonus, we had a tree that we weren’t sure what it was. After Josh trimmed it, we got the first plums ever. I entered them in the local county fair and we got a blue ribbon! Josh is honest, hardworking, and will complete your project as promised with integrity. Need I say more."

"This young man has obviously been the recipient of tutelage well beyond his experience as he is wise beyond his years. He is very affable and is a very good listener. He is somehow able to grasp your vision beyond the words you can provide and create just what was in your mind. A fine young man who will probably become way too busy to work for you. Haha"

I have always had a passion for trees dating back to my dendrology classes at Miami University. That passion has fueled many years in the arboriculture industry as a crew leader and climber. I'm happy to consult with you on your trees or shrubs and options to explore to preserve them for the long-term. Being an ISA Certified Arborist, I'm always striving to keep up with industry standards and grow myself.

Arborists questions, answered by experts

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.

Pruning is an effective way to prevent a diseased branch from infecting the rest of the tree. If the infection isn’t caught early enough and the pathogen has spread to the trunk or the majority of the branches though, it is too late to prune off the affected areas and you’ll likely need to remove the tree.

If an arborist is certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the highest level of certification available is ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. According to the ISA, this credential is reserved for arborists “who have reached the pinnacle of their profession.” Check your arborist’s credentials before hiring to confirm their level of training and expertise.

Yes, pruning makes trees stronger because it fosters proper growth, weight distribution, and balance of the crown. By increasing the structural integrity of the tree through pruning, it’s less likely to experience disease, pests, broken limbs, and storm damage. Pruning the right branches and limbs is key to improving a tree’s strength and balance.

Light-bark trees are most notorious for producing lots of sap when wounded. These varieties include maples, birches, poplars, dogwoods, magnolias, and elms, and they will bleed more when the trees are dormant. That’s why it’s a good idea to prune them in the summer months rather than waiting until winter.
